looking to get a camper, got a 19 off-road with towing package. It would be my gf, me and 3 dogs. I also might be moving to Colorado so steep inclines up the mountains are likely. I’m thinking something in the 3k range for weight or maybe just do a light popup camper at first.

I would think something in the 3k range empty weight would be good. then with 500-600lbs of cargo should be plenty comfortable to tow. This way you have room to add additional occupants to your tow vehicle.

Like new/Used about 17k. Not a lot of amenities at that price, but the design, light weight, and clearance is what I prioritize. Don't know if I would pay that much if I did have the cash but one can dream. Don't need a full kitchen and bathroom and tend to be playing outside more than inside.

More affordable, but less room and you have to take it with you if you leave camp. Though the dogs can be enclosed in the bed of the truck while you're up top. Still a minimalist design, but again I already have camp gear and don't need to duplicate it with a fully furnished camper.

We have a Tiger Moth and love it. Crickets are awesome but was too much out of our range. The Tiger Moth is incredible though and I have modified the shit out of it to suit our needs. IDK how big or fancy a camper the OP is looking for but if you want small, light, and simple the TM is great

Look them up on the Taxa Outdoors website or in the build for the camper in my sig. The first part is all stock we have a '16 the new ones are only a little different

@Pruby18 , what type of amenities you looking for?

Here's an AT Habitat, bit roomier than the GoFastCamper @Voltron4x4 mentioned above, but runs into the same issue of needing to put away before you can drive off.

I’m perfectly fine with minimal stuff...now the gf on the other hand would probably want the whole shower/kitchen setup lol. These are all solid options! I’ve got some time before I move so I’m doing as much research as possible on them.

Leer 122 or snugtop highliner (I believe) would be nice with a good platform setup. Mine shown below

The platform pieces are modular and the center pieces can be lowered to the floor for more room, or removed for the dogs

A step higher I’d look into those off-road teardrop trailers with all the amenities

If you are handy, convert a cargo trailer.

Check out the Tiger Moth I think the new ones are only 1400 lbs mine was 900 lbs stock because it was almost all aluminum. The kitchen is a 4' pull out drawer in the back and we got a Green Elephant to use as a shower/ bathroom. About everything folds all up and stores inside. It's about as close to tent camping as you could get with a tiny camper

How much did yours run you or do u know price range of the later models? Their website doesn’t really show.

I’ve seen some tear drop trailers range from like $12k up to 50k for some real nicely made ones.

Was sorta lookin into something like this one day. Even the hauler trailer is really nice on their website. https://taxaoutdoors.com/ultra-light-trailers/woollybear-adventure-trailer/

If more than basic amenities are wanted, I can highly recommend the Starcraft Satellite series. They are somewhat R-Pod clones, but for less money mostly. I would argue that the quality is as good as the R-Pod also. We have the 17RB with extreme package.

The tiger Moth's are around 15-17k depending on where you find one. We got ours in '17 and it was a leftover '16 so got it for like a third off. There is an "off road" version which comes with a road shower, ARB awning, larger "off road" tires and a rock guard. All of them have Thule racks on top. There is a FB page for TM owners and folks get on there selling them for decent savings. Our '16 was when they were all aluminum . Then they went to a hybrid steel and aluminum now I believe they are steel. The new ones come with a few small but neat features like a battery monitoring system, roof vent, and water can mounted to the rear. Just Google Taxa Tiger Moths for sale ad see what pops up

We have a Hasika awning that goes off the back to cover the cooking area and bought a 10x10 popup with the wall sections. When it's rainy we move the popup up against the camper and the awning and have a very large area to relax and stay dry. I will usually setup a wall section going out from the camper and another on the far side it blocks the wind and rain and we sit and stay dry. Great relaxing time. The Hasika collapses very small and the popup just slides inside the camper to packup.

Everything packs up nice and tight and lides right into the camper for storage. Even the grill is collapsable and the bathroom.

EDIT: you can also mount a RTT on these

An RTT on top would be perfect! the wet dogs will go in the Moth, since they wont stay under the awning in the woods, and I'll take the RTT.
