Tbh I haven’t really looked to see the full extent. I do notice water in the bed but not a huge amount to worry about. I get some on the tailgate cap but I think partly because the fiberglass lip on the rear glass is warped from a bad (factory) install. Still waiting to get a call from the dealer for the replacement. I have esi tailgate seal too that I haven’t messed with yet and I also have the oem rubber plugs that are used for the oem tonnue cover at the front rails (the gap under the rail) that I’ll install eventually. That will be the best it can be without a bunch of silicon which I refuse to do personally.

These extra steps or doing the install myself wasn’t to focus mainly on water leaks though… it was about doing the job right and by right I mean my way (using premium parts/material) and well let’s face it the included foam tape is subpar and well nobody is going to do it right, your way, except yourself. You know… if you want it done right you have to do it yourself

Here's a pic of tailgate seal I installed. It works great, keeps dust and water out.

    Mods? Yes.
This is the day I got my Leer 100r.

I didn't measure, but it definitely sagged a bit and I could feel the weight on it.

The next weekend, I took it on a road trip with backpacking and car camping gear for 2-3 people. Hit the bump stops many times on large road dips, but otherwise it handled pretty well despite that. I definitely recommend more leaf. Is it necessary? Absolutely not, but I'll say this: my heavy duty OME Dakars are going on soon (plus roof basket with big plans are now on the back).

I feel the same about my '99 TRD OR 4x4 and my dads '11 SR5 4x4. These "trucks" just can't carry much weight before it's noticeable.

I measured from hub to fender before adding my ARE shell and it sagged 1 inch. I plan on swapping the leaf pack or adding a leaf.

I ordered them through Overlook Graphics, found them on IG and told them what I was looking for. It was the first time laying a vinyl sticker that size so one side is far from perfect but if you watch YouTube videos on it im sure you can pull it off. www.overlookgraphics.com

Hey there a bit late to this thread but I would say you should keep springs in mind. It would also depend on what else you want to put in the back. Here is a thread that will probably help you: 3rd Gen TRD Pro Suspension Experience - Why I am upgrading!

I know the Pro might have different suspension but they are all factory tuned with an empty bed. Your experience with some weight in the back will be very similar

Since the post has been semi revived, I went with a Bestop and avoided the weight all together... except for the 3400lbs camper

I bought my Tacoma with the camper shell on it and have never removed it. I had a T100 long bed and could put on and take off the camper shell myself, I looked like a turtle doing it, but I could do it. I wouldn’t think a thing of adding it to your taco.

I have an ARE shell coming in a couple months. I want to get ahead of the curve and replace the rear packs to accommodate the weight of the shell + the gear I'll have back there.

Is there a certain weight rating we typically go for?

    I don't want a lift, I just need stiffer springs I guess.

I’m currently in the market for a shell and am as particular about things as you sound. Do you have any pics of the tonneau plugs you’re talking about? Thanks!

That looks awesome! Is that a generic seal, or something created specifically for that spot?
