    Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a camper shell to keep some stuff in my bed dry when I tow my bike to the track. I have a '98 4 cyl regular cab and have seen some on Facebook Marketplace for relatively cheap.

I just wanted to know if another gen camper shell will fit if they're both 6 ft beds. I'm also unsure of how it'll mount as I've never owned one before, but from what I read online some C clamps will go in the 4 holes of my bed liner? I don't see where else it would be able to attach.

    Thanks!

You need a shell form the same model generation for a proper fit.

If you compare measurements one from another brand may work like a ranger or frontier. Maybe even a gmc or Chevy. Worth a try if none are available for a Tacoma

Measurements aren't the only thing that matters. It's the shape of it all a well.

While the inside measurements of the debs from different generations are pretty much the same, the 2nd gens have wider outside dimensions (thicker fender panels, over-all wider body), and especially when you start looking at different brands entirely, the body shape is almost guaranteed to be different. which means it will look funky, even if it technically bolts together.

I think I can be of some help on this topic. I’ve bought and sold more than a handful of shells for my 99 reg cab and 04 Xcab.

The reg cab like you have has a bit different cab angle than xcab. To put it most simply, you can fit a 95-04 Reg cab shell onto an xcab. The xcab shells Will rub the reg cab badly.

You may be able to find a ranger, frontier, etc which measures 76x60 to fit your truck if you aren’t super concerned about color match.

My go to is to put the shell on meeting the buyer and make the call in person.

    cheers
