I got a new shell installed and when I took it home, I noticed the wiring did not look right. Upon inspection, a lot of wires are just held together with electrical tape. I moved it and the lights flickered.

also, the LED strip lights are actuated EXCEPT I have to have my running lights turned on. The dome light doesn’t work either without the running lights being on.

How bad they they butcher the wiring? Should they wire direct to the battery or another configuration so I can use the lighting without turning the running lights on?

Debating whether to go back here or just take it to someone else.

The red wire that goes from the fuse holder under the carpet is either spliced or likely vamp-clipped to your running light harness of the truck. All that other stuff is garbage. You should rewire it clean and proper - would not let them take another (literal) stab at it..

Mine was powered from battery. Yes, you paid for a crappy job but can now fix it to be correct.

More importantly, congrats on the new shell.

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
Toms Camperland out here in the Phoenix metro area does installs like this routinely. It’s sad, and can be a fire hazard.

I’d completely rewire the entire setup.

Oof. This looks like a 2020 or later?

I created a T-harness to tap the stop light, search for puppypunter for something premade. For the canopy interior lights I modified the small bedlight harness to T off of that. This way the canopy interior lights are either tied to the interior cab lights or always on / off using the bed light switch the dash. Someday when I have time I may re-work the canopy lights to be always on from the battery and controlled with a toggle switch somewhere near the tailgate.
