That looks pretty good. Why is Century so much less than ARE, LEER, etc...? I'm not familiar with caps/shells and was floored when I received a quote for a ARE Z series.

Does anyone have strong opinions on the quality /durability of Century? thx

I've got an ARE CX. Its got a carpeted inside, LED dome, Sliders on the sides, fold down front window, locking door, plus the thule racks on top. Cost me $1850.00 installed. $3200.00 is crazy!

I got one that should be shipped relatively soon (last week I was told it could be this Friday!). I got the leer "Legend" series and everything installed was at $1,250. I had them throw in a free window visor tint as well. This will have the slider windows as well as a dome light, but other than that it is pretty basic. I will update with pictures once I get it installed.

Century are the exact same thing as leer. Owned by the same company, made in the same factory. Can't tell the difference without the brand emblems on them. Same thing applies to the Raider brand.

Example: Leer 100xr and Century Ultra Sport. Here's screenshots taken from centurycaps.com and leer.com: (I've got the Raider Vagabond Elite on my truck which is also the same thing)

Hi. The pics below are why I say the Century cap is the Leer cap.

1st pic - Before I took off the Century badge.

2nd pic - After I took off the Century badge. Might be hard to see, but if you look closely you can see an area that is imprinted for the Leer badge.

3rd pic - The Leer badge that is the same shape as the imprinted area.

OK, this makes a lot of sense. These are clearly the same companies. Again, I don't want to be naive, but the ARE Z series I spec'd out was $3588 and was not "loaded" so to speak. I want to get a Backflip tonneau and a cap that I can change around, but I didn't realize it was going to be 2x what I thought it would be. I will get the tonneau now and shop the cap a little harder. I really like the aesthetic of the ARE Z and there are a few dealers in the area, so I work it. I just wish there were more Tacoma's in this part of the country so I can compare the toppers up close. It's all Colorados and F150s around here.

    Hi Finbar.

I can't explain the reason for the price difference between the brands, but that is the reason why I decided to go with the Century. I was quoted $2000 installed for the ARE V Series.

Since I just got the cap I cannot give a real good opinion about the quality and durability. From my initial look over the cap I didn't see any of the problems that were identified from the review videos, which included all the cap brands. While driving around town, I do not hear any unsettling noises like squeaking or cracking. It hasn't rained since the cap was installed so I have no input as far as it leaking.

Like you are doing now, when I was shopping around for tonneua covers I was going to buy the Diamondback HD tonneau cover. As much as I like the look and the awesome reviews of the quality and durability of the Diamondback HD, it just did suit my overall needs.

I'm interested in hearing what you decided to go with for your truck bed.

Hmmm, interesting. Someone asked me what brand my cap is and I told them I bought a Century, but I think I got a Leer. So, now I'm a liar.

I paid close to 3k for my Century. That was with a cash discount too. Yeah they start at 1100ish. But I got a lot of upgrades and it all starts adding up. Long bed. Flip/slide windows (almost 200 EACH). roof rack (this was the priciest at 500ish). Were already over 2K. Then I also wanted the slide/removable front window, center open rear window, aero bars for the rack.

If I had to go back and do it all over again would I? Probably. It's still the best option for all the stuff I want to do with the truck. I can't imagine which option I would delete. They are all useful and used fairly often. I guess if money was more of an issue I could live without some of it.

Saw this in my youtube feed last night. A company in S Africa - RSI they ship you the canopy in a flat box like ikea furniture and you assemble it. Stainless steel looks so good, and I wish they sold here in the US.

i'd be willing to test that. it's a nice design vs the alu-cab's more utilitarian canopy
