Found a source for 3rd gen shells for $400-500. i tried a few searches and they were all for a 2nd gen shell to 3rd gen truck.

How poorly would a 3rd gen shell on a 2nd gen truck fit? Really dont need to be perfect but good enough for the winter and to mostly keep water out, especially for the price.

I wouldn't. Keep hunting. Sounds like a safety hazard that will always be on your mind.
