I need to mount a roof basket on my camper shell. Most roof baskets are designed to bolt on to cross bars. I have no cross bars on the camper shell now(nor is there a provision to install one). In other words, I need to drill holes and install some sort of mount? How to and what hardware do I need to get the rails/cross-bars going?
anyone with camper shell with roof basket?

You can buy rail tracks to attach to the roof. Look at Snug-Top's website.

I looked up rail tracks...man they are expensive for no reason. I'm willing drill holes, any cheaper options out there?

I've seen some plates that bolt to the sides near the top to mount Thule or Yakima Mounts to.

If you want versatility and decent strength atop your fiberglass shell, you should install tracks. You then can get landing pads, towers, and crossbars in all sorts of configurations for your needs. Thule and Yakima come to mind, I've used and installed both brands on shells. They're both great.
