This might work for a under quilt for my hammock. Thoughts?

I've seen people just use sleeping bags. Put a hole in the foot box and by your head and just run the hammock through. Cheap and easy. Maybe get a down throw for under and above ya on real cold days..

That's why I wish I could lay my hands on one. There are a ton of vids on YouTube of folks using them for just that.

Totally. Looking to put together a Zion hike trip either this fall or in spring next year.

Here's the issue... to lay in a hammock properly to get a flat lie, you have to lay offset and slightly diagonal. You can't do it with a sleeping bag around you unless it's a much larger bag. Good idea to get by, though, but I'd rather still do a separate underquilt and a top quilt.

I was referring to the down throw converted to an under quilt, not a sleeping bag. I hate sleeping bags, especially the "mummies" that some use with their hammocks.

Almost that time of the year when the weather gets crisp and the back packs come out!

Gotcha. I didn't see that part.

I made a summertime underquilt with a full size military poncho liner and some shock cord. It works great for temps down into the high 30's when all I'm using for insulation is the clothes on my back and my down top quilt. Surprising how much that cheap poncho liner can block out the wind and hold in that heat on your back.

It's got hand rails. Just a bit of exposure can't be that hard. I want to go.

I've watched a few videos of the entire thin part of the trail. Lots of people of all ages doing it. I'm deathly afraid of heights but this is one of the ways I conquer it.

I see her but that doesn't mean we didn't party too much.

I'm not afraid of heights as long as I'm on something solid like rock. I've rappelled 560 feet, oh but that was in the dark :)
    I'm cautious about ladders however.
