I watched a video on a guy making that throw into an underquilt and he took out either the horizontal or vertical stitching...not sure what advantage it gives

Hey, if you don't use a Camelback, or some other type of bladder, what kind of water bottles do you use to carry your drinking water? I was just looking on Rtic's web site and they're selling their 18 oz. bottles for $10, which I think is a great price. I bought one of their 36 oz. bottles this summer for $30, and they're now $20. If you've not used one of their products, check them out.

I use Platy bottles. Or Smartwater. Everything else is too heavy.

X2 on the Smartwater bottles. I carry 2 of the taller ones which is plenty for me for miles. When I get too lazy to stop and filter, I just screw the Sawyer Mini right to the bottle and drink as I go. The other bottle acts as my backflush syringe with a simple fitting.

I use nalgene bottles. Here in the N.W. you usually don't have to carry much water, if it's not raining now it will be soon.

I like how quick I can get the smartwater bottles into the webbing pockets on the side of my pack. With wider bottles like Nalgenes, they never wanted to go in without having to use 2 hands.

Okay, Platypus bottles I've found. When you say Smartwater, do you mean the Smartwater bottled water you get at the grocery store?

This type of soft Platy (works great with a Sawyer in line filter)

    And this Smartwater,

Yeah, the grocery store plastic Smartwater bottles fit most pack pockets better than other shapes and sizes...plus they are very light.

Thanks, guys. I'm going to the Grand Canyon in the latter part of October. Water is available in both the Bright Angel and Indian Garden campgrounds, but I'll need to carry water for the hike down and back up, plus I'll need to have water for the day hikes I'll take while camping. Just trying to figure out what all I'll need.

We'll go down South Kaibab trail and stay 2 nights at Bright Angel campground, then head back up Bright Angel Trail and spend 1 night at Indian Garden campground.

Sounds like a great hike lined up! We only did Down and overnight at Indian Garden. Up early, hiked down to Phantom Ranch for the afternoon and headed back to IG after 4pm. Camped. Hiked out the following morning.

I'm really looking forward to it. A co-worker and I have been planning this for over a year and a half. He's a retired fireman that's actually younger than me and our wives think we're nuts. It's one of those "bucket list" things.
