Yeah, weather's been a factor for me as well. I'm only 7 weeks out from my Grand Canyon trip and I need to get some training hikes in. It's been awfully warm down here, and now Harvey is going to drop a bunch of rain on the Lone Star trail that's been my go-to for day hikes. It might be a couple of weeks before it dries enough to get back out there. I'll be going to the gym, but it's not nearly as much fun.

It has been suggested in GC forums to use a stair stepper backwards to train different muscles for the downhill in GC.
Just a thought if you are in the gym, that you could try it.
Any discomfort I got on the downhill was my calf. I haven't felt that since I started using poles.

Never heard of using a stair-stepper backwards. I don't even think the gym I go to has one. When I do work out, I spend quite a bit of time on the elliptical. I think it helps. I'm only about 45 minutes away from the Sam Houston National forest, so that's where we go when it's not 100 degrees outside. Nothing like the canyon, but it has a lot of short ups and downs, so it's a pretty good workout.

I backpacked down from the south rim last year, and I can't imagine doing it without trekking poles.

So great to finally meet you in person, @Cuffs ! Thank you soooo much for the celebratory Makers Mark, which I greatly enjoyed with my pizza at Half Dome Village as I staggered off the JMT.

Sooo many pics to come. I'm processing through over 1600 pics and over 150 videos of my journey. My kit worked extremely well for me on this trip, and of course the scenery every day was epic. JMT complete!

Ok here's a few pics of my JMT journey this past month. A little over 160 miles in 13.5 days to finally finish the rest of it. Wife and I section hiked the other ~50 miles in the past 2 summers, but I was out to do the rest this year and everything worked out perfectly.

Seabass wonderful photos. Any chance you could place some information along with the pics or do you have a place where there's a trip report? Places, gear, stories?

I meant to caption the location of each picture but I got in a hurry yesterday. I'll go back and caption them later today probably. They do go in order though, with at least a couple pics from each day for all 14 days that I was on the trail. I haven't written a trip report, as I use the pictures to be my story and I don't blog/write/etc. I did create a gear list before the trip, and it's exactly what I brought with me. You can find that here: https://lighterpack.com/r/7hygqn

JMT- absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing (except for the feet photos - yah, you get a purple heart :)). I've see photos of the Devils Post Pile but never the glacier shaped top view. Just WOW.

2 nights at the GC, a night in Lone Pine, 3 in Yosemite, another one in the Eastern Sierra somewhere (maybe Mammoth?), one night somewhere between the Owens Valley and Sedona, and hopefully one night at the Edge of the World in Sedona (may change). Hotel stays in Albuquerque bookend the trip which is starting and ending from north Texas.

The drive between GC and Lone Pine is quite far with a lot of things I would like to try and see, so does anyone have any campground suggestions for Lone Pine since I will likely get there after dark and won't have much time to really "look". As of now the plan isj ust to stay at Lone Pine campground.

Also need suggestions for a place between the Owens valley and Sedona. I would like to try and drive out and camp near the edge of the world in Sedona but would ideally break up that drive from the Eastern Sierra area into two days so I get there with good daylight left. Unfortunately many of the areas in between are still going to be a bit uncomfortable at night, so maybe a cheap hotel stay is in order.
