It's always rough to read when a brother is lost. At least the family can have some closure now.

Sad, said to the sound of "Anchors Away".

I used to go to Yosemite in my youth. Started as a young child, a few visits while in the Navy, and then 1 or 2 week long backpacking vacations while working after discharge.

I saw that earlier. :( It doesn't look like they found the hiker that went missing on June 5, did they?

I don’t know them by date... one was a concession employee. Haven’t heard anything on him yet (he went over Nevada Falls)

Also, unrelated question, has anyone ever bought from Patagonia Worn Wear? I just bought two Ultralight Jackets (one hooded) for my parents that are essentially new or returns for $80 each.

That may be it. It is this incident:

    MISSING PERSON
On June 5, 2017, at approximately 12:30 pm, a male hiker was reported to have fallen from the Mist Trail and into the Merced River.
If you witnessed this incident on the Mist Trail or have any information regarding this individual, please contact Yosemite National Park Dispatch at 209/379-1992.

Can’t tell from that but it was truly a tragic accident. Employee on his daily morning hike, charging back downhill (thru hoards of tourists and gawkers- saying ‘scuse me, pardon me, coming thru, on your left...)
Caught a backpacker by surprise right at the railing, backpacker soun around, hitting him with his pack and into the river...

More or less, yeah. Some of it is literally brand new with tags, some is old and/or repaired, stained, etc. However, they do tell you the condition and any damage, and when the garment was released. So in this case, these jackets were one Spring 2017 style and pne Fall 2016, both in excellent condition. Here is the grading scale:

Yeah, the Worn Wear program has some things like new, cosmetic seconds, etc. included. A shop I used to own participates with the program and they've brought their repair wagon to our front door for a day, making free repairs on any brand. Anything we've received that's less than perfect goes back through the program.

FYI on outdoor clothing there’s a small tag (unless it’s been cut of by purchaser) under all the other tags. It will have a season code on it F17, S12. Outdoor clothes is only two seasons, fall, spring, so F or S and the year. It’s easy to gauge how old your own stuff is or if you find it second hand or resale shop.

Season tag example: one of my fave things lost to the Fire was an Outdoor Research Gore earband. I found them on deeply sale at REI. This is why... Fall/2015

    (I don’t care, it’s still a great product)

Just a bunch of old crap
I'm really surprised that his body hadn't been found earlier, given the amount of activity that's all around the Merced. Sad for his death, but glad that his family has some closure now.

Even in August the river levels were still above normal and with so many strainers below surface... it’s amazing what hides below the surface and what you can see when waters finally recede. It makes me stay away from the water when it’s high, I know there’s no getting out of it if you fall in...

I was surprised at the flow when I was there I September. I mean, I have only been there in September but this year was much higher than when I was there last year.

Which pump sack do you use for your exped synmat UL? I didnt know you were not suppose to blow up with your mouth. I did notice moisture before, but ive been using ive used it many times with no problems. Id rather make the switch to a pump then degrade it even more.

Question. If I wanted to do a 4-5 day trip along the JMT from Kearsage and exit through Whitney Portal. Would I follow the same permit process as the JMT or would it be the permit process for Mt Whitney?
