Should've been done before this point. Parks have been under served for many years. The NPS is a customer of mine, and I've seen more affects of this lack of funding than anybody will see driving through the entrance tolls.

Love the NPS or lose the NPS, IMO. Park tourism keeps them alive, not the love of parks. It's time to put wallets where our heart is, the consequence of inaction is a far greater loss to bear than park fees. It's still very affordable with an annual pass, and the frequent visitors probably either already have them or will get them going forward.

FWIW, I think the topic is definitely appropriate here, I'd just suggest maintaining a sharing of opinion and not a debate of them - that way we can avoid treading into political issues/discussion and keep the thread going strong.

It's a gear and info sharing thread first and foremost, so let's not let this be a dominating topic. :)

    Indeed.

Memory is fuzzy on this, but I do believe they have a program also that if you give them receipts for day passes (within a week maybe) they'll credit that towards an annual pass.

Can't confirm 100% on the details, but there is a program of that nature.

if people are that worried about lower income families, then put a program in place for them.

Say if they provide proof of low income, they get a lower rate.

Will the fee increase keep people out of the park?
Do not see it, as I believe the majority of the expense is getting to and from the parks unless you live 'next door'.
If this is like any other government thing, if you are under privileged I am sure there is some kind of free money to help you get in the park, once you get there....
I do think that the "it will keep people out/ away/ unable, etc" argument is just the fall back position to oppose any increase in any fees, anywhere...
The parks need help, and the folks in charge in DC are not doing that great job at looking out for our parks.
Just my opin and mine alone.
    Beer time...

If the misappropriation of government funds wasn't rampant I'd be more inclined to support this. So I disagree with the increase but I'll pay it because I won't boycott going to NPs.

Awesome price for a great pad. I just hate how loud it is. I picked up a NEMO cold weather style and love it because it's smaller and doesn't have that crunchy sound. I have both because my ex and I used to sleep in a double sleeping bag (Backcountry bed duo)

What is everyone using to inflate their pads?

People always say that, but mine has never bothered me and when my wife uses it I haven’t noticed the crinkly sound. I guess they changed up the baffles a year or two ago and it’s quieter now. So maybe you have an older one?

I just use my lungs. I know you technically aren’t suppose to, but I always store mine with the valves open after trips to try and dry out any condensation.

I'm looking for a nice tent recommendation. I won't be backpacking with it, so weight isn't an issue, but I want something that's durable and will hold up to the elements well. Looking for a 4 person to hold myself, wife and large dog with a price range of $300-$400. I've found a couple online that have good reviews, but wanted to hear your guys input.

I would like a 4 season, but if the price is outrageous then 3 season is fine. I'll likely sleep in the bed of my truck anyways if there's heavy snow.
