Just a bunch of old crap
Hey if you want a hiking partner on some passages, I have a bunch to finish up. I've done 10 passages so far, with a 6 passage 8 day trip coming up in early November. I'd like to knock out a couple more passages up north before temps drop. I need passage 28 to close a gap, and I need to do all of 30 and beyond to the north. I'd be really interested if you wouldn't mind company. Normally I go solo but it gets tricky with trailhead logistics down south. I'm UL with lots of trail experience.

    Sounds awesome and well planned.

I am curious about some of your gear. Which model Black Diamond light? I'm not weight concerned, but quality and features. I made a request in this thread, but no hits so far. Maybe you have a place to point me too?

Interested in your solar battery cell as well. Brand/source?

    Thanks!

Battery cell is no longer on Amazon but it was this one and there are tons like it. I just went off reviews. The thing is a tank but it stores enough juice to charge my phone from dead 4-5 times at least. The solar part is slow and kinda meh if you want something truly solar look at some of the goalzero stuff. They make panels that you can attach to the top of your pack and most pack manufactures actually design their packs to work with the Goalzero panels.

I assume your talking about the lantern? pretty inexpensive and light weight has clips so super easy to attach to the top of the tent. Probably best served in a tent or hanging on a small tree branch vs using as a table lantern. Puts out solid light inside a tent if you are setting up in the dark or want to read or change in the dark etc.

    I've only done passages 4, 5, 13, 14, 15, 24-27, and 29. I'll be doing 16-21 in early November. I still have lots of southern passages to do. 1-3 and 6-12.

It all depends on your foot shape, foot strength, stride, etc. No single brand is the best shoe for all. Just try them out and see what you think. Personally Salomons are too narrow for me in the toebox. What kind of Salomons are you looking at? More of a boot or trail runner or ?

I really wanted to like the Salomon Ultra's but my foot apparently is weird and the front of my heel would dig into the arch support of the shoe causing my foot to go numb after a while. Same with Merrell and TNF shoes. I ended up with a pair of Adidas Terrex Swift R's as my scrambling grippy shoes and La Sportiva Wildcat 3.0's as my long distance trail shoe. The La Sportiva's are awesome right out of the box. The adidas are great super grippy on scrambles but I did have to spend another $50 for inserts.

That is a lot of writing to say go and try them on vs buying randomly online.

I’ve tried the Salomons, I mean as in, I bought a pair. I also bought the Altra Top Peak, as well as two different pair of Oboz. They all have their strengths, but in the end my favorite is the Oboz Sawtooth. But, like it’s been stated, each foot is different, so go try them on.

Anyone have one of these multi-fuel lanterns? It does kerosene, diesel, gasoline, white gas and some others I 9-Vxm-7qGPYiHCBb5dKUE0xvlnAY72MdzGsklnFc_746d2ffd344f4847b919c96bc75bd50db3698e6f.jpg think.

This is an only a store display model that I found in a flea market. I was gonna buy it then and there before I figured out it was just a dummy model.

After researching, I found they are made in Florida.

Of course, looking on Alibaba, I can get one for $6, but I have to buy 100:(

Kero, yes, diesel, probably, not without trouble.
Gas and white gas, at your own risk. There are no safety features that other gas pressure devices have.

Similar to the Petromax. I have 3-4, and [opinion alert] they are a pain to keep working. YMMV.

Damn! I wish Coleman made a chrome or brass lantern in this style. Coleman lanterns just, plain work.

Strip the green paint off of a Coleman and have it plated either brass or chrome.

    That's a thought. I'll look into that.

I like the screen name. I got a pair of them Stryker's as well.
