I have the REI base camp 6 tent. It's about 8 years old, and the last time we used it, it looked like new. Still waterproof, and had plenty of room for three cots and all our gear. I do keep it stored inside.

I would think that the Kingdom 6 or 8 would be a good tent.

    I hope that helps you.

    Enjoyed it for years.

Thanks. My only tent has been an REI Half Dome 2 Plus and now that I have a daughter, I need to get a family tent for a dog, 2 adults and a kid or two.

REI brand stuff does me just fine, and the 30% sales on their brand of stuff that happens a few times a year is when I'll get some stuff.

I'll have to take a look and see what they have available. Maybe they'll have a redesign in 2017 and this years model will hit the Outlet. :woot:

That's when I buy big ticket stuff from REI. I have had good luck with the REI brand gear.

Same here! It's all been great. Well thought out designs and durable. I don't buy much that is their brand but everything I do have from them is excellent.

Wish I could fit my shit in a 30L. I think I'll be lucky to get it a 45L to work for 2/3 days.

Probably could in the middle of summer with no possibility for rain. Lol

Good to hear about the pack. I've been thinking about getting a new, lighter day pack.

I live in AZ! Were getting into the time where you can go outside and not burn up finally. I dont usually carry a tent when i backpack either which definately helps.

Ill post up how it does when i take it out and wear it for a few miles on friday.

I have the REI quarter dome 3 and it's great. Fits my gf, myself and our gear perfectly.

I have the old REI Habitat 4, bought it when I was single and thought it would be more than enough. Well, then wife.... kids....

I have camped in some serious storms with the wife, dog, and two of the 3 kids (littlest has been a little small to join us). I might be able to fit them all in if we get the small discobed or maybe two, third kid on top and the dog on bottom.

Making a buy this week on some gear. Planning on the Alps Chaos 2. Want a small tent since I'll probably be using it alone but I don't want to go as small as a bivy. Any thoughts on that tent? Another Alps tent you'd rather have? I get a deal on that brand.

Use will be overnight hikes, so backpacking but probably <10 miles total so I don't need ultra lightweight stuff. I think the chaos 2 is ~6 lbs packed.

I was eyeing the Hobitat 8. Plenty of room for now, and plenty to grow into I think. I'll probably go and try and setup in store before I commit, or at least check out a 6.

I won't be buying until next year.

Only place to consider asking this question. Planning to drop some serious money on snow boots for winter, in northern Arizona. Any advise for a certain brand? Yes, I'm that guy. Buy once and get it right. Thanks, in advance.

Camping shit. We went through a serious gear-lightening process several years back. No ultra light, as you can tell from my Gregory, but still.

    FBC (fucking bear can)
    Thermarest, I forget which model.
Thermarest camp chair thingy. Ideal for cocktails and alpenglow veiwing after a hard day on the trail.
Old North Face Cat's Meow down bag.
Crushable pillow. Fuck you I'm old and I will sacrifice space and weight for better sleep.
Cheap-ass little old GAZ cartridge stove, works great for boiling water, which is all we do for most hot meals to minimize impact and cleanup (oatmeal, coffee, and Mountain whatever freeze dried, chili mac and beef stroganov FTMFW.
    Titaium pot for boiling water.
    Long titanium spoon
Plastic insluated REI coffe mug with lid. Really light.
small lexan cup for oatmeal and measuring.
Marmot tent, forget what kind, 3-season with fly, light and works great, side doors.
    Headlamp and spare batteries
    Small Gerber lock blade
    Map
Platypus 1L collapsable bottles x2, I keep Nuun mix in one and water in the other, one is jooked to my hydration hose.
Katadyn filter, forget which kind (bought this after I almost had a fucking stroke trying to pump through my old Sweetwater and almost threw it from the Bighorn Plateau into the Kern River gorge one beautiful evening).
Small amount of cut tape, utilitly cord, couple spare lash straps and zip ties, rubber bnads, and a couple large plastic garbage bags for rainproofing emergencies, probably some other stuff in there
Emergency whistle, magnesium fire starter stick, survival matches, compass, mirror
    First aid kit

    Is tha enough shit?
