Yeah Yakima cab rack which ends up leaving like 1/2“ of clearance oversoft topper. I’m leaning towards another topper option (Alu cab or smartcap) for better security when I’m in the backcountry

Having a USB C connection doesn't sound silly at all. Micro-usb is dead and most companies should be phasing it out. There's absolutely nothing wrong with my 5 year old beaten and abused NU25 but the extra 40 Lumens and USB-C just relegated it to house duty. Thanks for the heads up.

It’s a side feature that I’m grateful for as it pulls the micro cable out of my bag which removes a single use item.

I got excited about this since I really like my current NU25 (previous version). I watched the Nitecore video about the newer version and I will wait till the next update. I really like having a dedicated red light button where I don't have to cycle through the modes (white light). Also in the video the flood light looks much cooler than the previous version. Having a warm flood light for working around camp is easier on the eyes.

When I'm in the market for something rechargeable, I try to look for products with a type-c port!

I understand that and wish my current model did have a type-C port. However the button issue for me is a bigger issue and I'll keep using the previous version. Having come from using Petzl headlamps with manual red filters, the change in brand to a rechargeable with a dedicated red light button was a deciding factor.

I've got the older gen NU25 and absolutely love it. Definitely interested in the USB-C version and a couple extra lumens

I've got a bunch of Enloop batteries and I always brought extras when I used petzl headlamps. Now I don't have to with the NU25.
I was a diehard petzl user and have way too many of them.

How do you recharge? Vehicle? Battery pack?
    What if away from vehicle?
Do you think these are better base camp lights?

I almost bought some a couple weeks ago, but thought to get more research.

I can carry two of these rechargeable headlamps and still be under the weight of a battery powered headlamp and two sets of batteries, not even counting the weight of a portable battery charger.

Low weight and redundancy are high priorities for me. For others, they may prioritize other issues.

How do I recharge Enloops? I never had to buy that's why I brought extra batteries. With the NU25 (previous micro USB version) I charge from 12v accessory plugs hooked to my 2nd battery.

Yes, the light, not the eneloops.

I spent some of this evening looking.
Some brands use proprietary battery packs. They can be switched out. That seems good, and bad.
The ones with internal batteries, I wonder if they are replaceable.

The Black Diamond Storm 500-R has a 2400mAh battery. I have the regular storm and like all the features.

I’ve replaced proprietary batteries before. Once removed you’ll likely see the label on it with the batteries size number which makes sourcing a replacement easy.

I’ve encountered that in the past with a few models. You practically have to risk breaking the shell to get some open. The nerd in me always looks at reviews and videos before buying. Searching for fasteners is definitely high on the list of what I’m looking for. There used to be a climbing husband and wife channel on YouTube that actually did destructive reviews on some things and showed how they were assembled. Have no clue if they’ll ever pop back up again.
