I didn't cheap out on the sleeping bag though, got a Nemo Jazz double bag.

Fits on the mattress snug, has holder for pillows, has a removable sheet inside, and most importantly the sleeping bag and mattress fit together in the Nemo carrying duffle.
It is massive, about the size of my 27 gallon tote bin, but comfort and quickness of setup are more important than size.

Though I did have to cut a hole for the filler valve :( but cutting a hole in a $350 sleeping bag is no big deal after cutting up my Tacoma to fit high clearance bumpers.

End of October I will get a chance to test it all out when I go up north to offroad and mountain bike. It will be nice to save $150 on not having to get a hotel room.

Mountain House increased its standard shelf life from a conservative 7-10 years to a 30-year taste guarantee in 2016, a policy that applies retroactively to all products made since 1986. Proper storage in a cool, dark, and dry place is crucial to achieving the full 30-year shelf life.

The new “best used” by date on that package would now be July 2041. It was packaged on the 192 day of 2011.
