Hey all. I'm new to the forum, so forgive me if there is already a thread for this. I checked, but didn't see anything. I'm looking for some suggestions on where to take the taco out camping in the Upstate SC/North GA/Western NC area. Some good, off the beaten path spots preferred. Pics appreciated. Thanks guys.

Your best bet for remote camping in these areas will be the National Forests - Nantahala, Chatahoochee, Cherokee https://www.fs.fed.us/ivm/ Get a copy of the detailed maps for each Forest and go from there. As a general rule, camping in our NF's is allowed anywhere its not posted as prohibited but there are also rules for minimum distance from water, roads, structures etc. Best to use an area showing signs of previous use rather than screw up something pristine. These maps will also have FS roads clearly marked and a MVUM (Motor Vehicle Use Map) is also handy. FS81 in Nantahala NF just off the Cherohala Skyway near Robbinsville, NC is a favorite of ours.

Check out GaiaGPS. I create the layers I want and download a spot with several MVUMs and just go explore. It's an awesome tool and worth the $40 a year.

I just checked that out. Looks like an awesome app. Did you use the free version before upgrading? Do you get any of the MVUM, or do you have to pay to get that?
