I'll have to play around with it. And sleeping back there would definitely be more of a "damn I cant get any sleep in the RTT cause its cold or windy, lets move to the bed". Just wanted a plan B. And I think caps look cool too.

    I don't :D

I use the platform to camp when I'm doing a quick overnighter and I need somewhere to sleep at at trailhead or for a few hours after night fishing. If I'm posting up in a campsite for a long period and variable weather is involved, then I use a tent.

If I'm honest, though, truck camping on a platform in the bed really isn't that convenient. Sure, you don't have to setup a tent, but all your gear that was in the truck has to stay outside. That can be a problem in you're in bear country (or mouse country (or snow country (or you need your shit in the middle of the night and have to crawl out))). The amount of moving bedding and shifting gear over multiple days takes more time than setting up a basic tent. I'd rather leave all that crap back at camp and have my truck bed as a working space during the day.

It also depends on what your style is. I see these guys with the RTTs and 54 vestibule attachments and think, "Looks cool." But, my dumbass would set it all up and then decide it's time to drive down a FS road for a sunset beer. I'd never know when I was far enough into the day to actually set it all up.

Lastly...full disclosure, I'm picking up my GFC in another month or so. The platform was great, but I need more. The GFC will be my tent and storage area, then I'll get one of those regular 10 x 10 fold out shades that I'll back up to. I can drive away when I want and still not have to setup a tent.

You've done it, I might be out on this whole idea. I guess if it really came down to it, I could always sleep in the front seat in a pinch. I have an RTT and an awning and setup takes 20 minutes to do everything including setting up the bed. Now all I gotta do is get a mattress for the RTT that isn't made from sawdust.
