    09 Dbl-Cab Short Bed
    Greetings all,

Bought a new 09 Tacoma double-cab short-bed, and I am interested in some sort of tent system mounted to a rack above the cab/bed. It needs to sleep 4 people, so either a large tent or two 2-person tents side by side or end to end.

I've seen a lot of solutions on the web, does anyone have info in best, cheapest, home-made, DIY, etc? I'm not looking for fancy, just a tent or shelter to keep out the wind and rain - but I want it lightweight so I can go to back woods without having to carry a heavy camper.

    Thanks...

how would you be able to sleep 4 people? I was thinking of making some sort of "lean to" type roof for my bed so I could sleep in the back. Just got to figure out how to get 4 poles to stand up in the corners.

Buy a POP-UP, you can get them with off-road wheels and enough clearance to go places with them. Fridge, Bathroom, NICE BEEDS, AC if you want it.. furnace.. lots of extra features.

Check out http://www.colemantrailers.com/ or your local Craigslist for a used Coleman.. they are built well.

I had an 07 in red first, and got the TSB.. perfect. I just bought an 09 and haven't gotten it done yet, i took it in last week and they told me Toyota would have to aprove it..so.. i am waiting. only 1500 miles on the new truck.. Lift will follow after that for sure.

I traded the 07 because I got hooked on TW and wanted 4x4.. :D

Check out some of the rigs over on the Expedition Portal forum. Some sweet rigs for long distance travel and camping. Although it’s very hard to define camping as "roughing it" with some of these set ups.

A seperate tent (on the ground or on a trailer) would allow you to drive places without taking down and stowing the tent, during the day. We set up our camp and go for 'four wheeling' drives.

drop in k&n for now. Deckplated. Got rid of the intestinal airpipe and baffleys. Replaced with shiny big pipe of more straightness.
So how do they pack back up in to the various beds and tops?
They all look really cool and functional.
Have done heaps of hiking to campsite.
    Never with a truck.

So they all just kinda fold back in on themselves and into their various beds, tops or trailers ?

Obviously interested in camping with the truck. But the idea of it IN or ON vs in tent on ground is very interesting.

    Curious.
(if theres a thread on them packed up please direct.)

I got this Jayco Baja in new condition for $9k (2009 model year)....

    withouttruck_02e218a870935f4289e74027d405d3d4cd3e4fd7.jpg

Even better, they resell on these things is easy and I can sell it for like $8 or maybe even $9k still cause I got such a steal that after years of enjoyment if taken care of...I can probably only be out a couple grand.

Its memories that count though and you can't put a price on that!
