Glad my neighbor retired from the DFS for Inyo forest in November. He has been taking me out to explore some nice areas. Just found a nice shooting range someone set up locally.

Of course two more deaths this weekend and 46 more positives....

    Hi all,

I’m looking to take a weekend camping trip in the next couple of weeks and am trying to keep up with the Covid closures..

I’ve been on the Forest Service, NP and BLM websites and have seen a list of what’s closed, but wanted to know if anybody has been camping on public land in the Big Sur, Pismo Beach, Anza Borrega, Angel Island areas in the past week or two?

A lot of public lands are closed for camping but it’s not enforced... (I was just up near Death Valley and rangers didn’t care). Was hoping to find a couple places where access roads aren’t locked :)

    Appreciate any help!

State Fish and Wildlife Reinstate “Fishmas” Trout Opener Dates in Eastern Sierra | Year-Round fishing for rest of State

While California’s Department of Fish and Wildlife haven’t set the new schedule in stone as yet, it has, tentatively, given “Fishmas,” the Eastern Sierra’s chambers of commerce business marketing plan, back to businesses in the Eastern Sierra.

It’s a little more complicated than that though. As reported to the Mono County Board of Supervisors last week by Jeff Simpson, economic development manager. Year-round trout fishing, with a 5/10 bag/possession limit, starts Monday, March 1 in the rest of the state. But, to accommodate the Fishmas tradition on the East Side, that holiday will be celebrated at the traditional waters April 24, the last Saturday in April through November 15, just like we’ve always done.

Those waterways include: Bridgeport Reservoir and tributaries and Convict Lake, Crowley Lake, George Lake, Grant Lake, Gull Lake, Horseshow Lake, June Lake, Lundy Lake, Mamie Lake, Mary Lake, Rock Creek Lake, Sabrina Lake, Silver Lake, South Lake, Twin Lakes in Mammoth, Twin Lakes in Bridgeport and upper and lower Virginia Lake.

New Statewide Inland Trout Fishing Regulations went into effect March 1, 2021

New Statewide Inland Trout Fishing Regulations went into effect today impacting some of our fishing destinations in Mono County. We’ve put together the attached PDF of the most popular Mono County fishing locations for your website and place of business.

For a full list of changes please visit the California Department of Fish and Wildlife website here: https://fgc.ca.gov/Regulations/2020-New-and-Proposed#3_00 Or view the smartphone regulation map here: https://apps.wildlife.ca.gov/sportfishingregs/

All campgrounds on Independence creek are evacuated - fire 3 miles west of 395, strong wind blowing it east toward town.

It's gonna get big. It's supposed to be blowing at 25 MPH for the next 36 hours.

Are you picking it up on a scanner?

Just let me know if you notice a bright orange glow in a few hours. As far as I can tell they haven't called in Bishop for mutual aid yet. Maybe they got a handle on it.

My buddy lives in Indy and is saying the fire is blowing southerly, so isn’t threatening the town. Yet.

At least the winds have chilled out a bit. That's gonna help if they can get ahead of it. Plenty of east/west dirt roads to use as fire breaks. Gonna be an interesting night.

    Update:
    Size:80 acres
    Contained 40%

Caused by a campfire that was not fully extinguished. Fire was in a rock fire ring and vegetation was cleared around it, high winds blew embers into adjacent brush.

If they're naming it Robinson Fire it probably started up by Robinson Lake. That's about the end of the road and the trailhead. At least there's no wind right now. It's not to rugged of an area but it's not in the flats either. Lots of pine trees already dead if this one is where I think it is.

Radio chatter sounded like a water/retardant drop was done and crews are on the ground.
