Are the access roads closed or is it simply that all services are not operating?

North Rim Grand Canyon closes this time of year but that just means there are no park services. You can still access the park.

That said, not to be taken lightly. You get stuck in a snow storm and no one is coming to rescue you.

I wanted to offer a very special thanks for your suggestions. After researching each of these amongst a few others, we decided to go to Valley of Fire state park and couldn’t be happier with our first trip. Great park, beautiful views, nice facilities, and excellent staff.
Here’s a pic from the trip. Thank you again.

Great view! Nice to see the ram, too! Looks like you had a great time. Try out Snow Cyn sometime, too- it won’t disappoint!

    Cheers

Nevada State Parks don’t accept reservations, it’s 1st come, 1st served there. We usually call ahead from I-15 to see if there are openings still the day of, otherwise you can open country camp outside of it (slim pickings for good areas), go to Lake Mead, or continue N on I-15 to Cedar Pocket in the Virgin River canyon north of Mesquite - it’s a very scenic area too.

I've gone to two places this last year I really like. Red lake is a bit of a drive, up near shaver lake by Fresno. Also, Sequoia national monument (not park) is past the Kern River and lake Isabella areas and was a ton of fun. Lots of great camping areas I can point you to and nice little hikes. Check my build thread for pics and reports and message me for more info if you'd like
