My favorite spots. Some of these are well known and some of these aren't, but they're all rad.

    - Joshua Tree NP - Hidden Valley campground. Best one in the park, especially if you like climbing. Nothing like having a baller trad route in your campsite.

    - Anza Borrego SP - Tons of random spots that you just drive wherever and setup. Really anywhere is good here

    - Monache Meadows - It's forest service, so it's dispersed camping and you gotta haul all your shit with you. It's fairly remote since you have to take FS roads, but it's a fun drive.

    - Alabama Hills - Dispersed camping, and easy as shit to get to, so it's fairly crowded most of the time. I really only use it as a place to sleep if I'm tired on my way to or from the Mammoth area.

    - Big Pine Creek - Awesome hikes up to Finger Lake and the random glacier. Finger Lake is incredibly beautiful

    - Reds Meadow/Devils PP - Perfect place to camp since there's tons of shit to see and do in the area as well as going into Mammoth if you feel like it.

    - Tuolumne Meadows/Yosemite NP - My favorite campground since it's 50/50 FCFS/Reservations. You get waaaaaay less people than the valley and all of the beauty. Shit load of great fishing scattered in the area as well as stellar hiking and climbing.

    - Prewitt Ridge - Already mentioned it earlier in this post, but it's up above big sur and it's a good place to post up if all the campgrounds are reserved.

HUMBOLDT AREA(Since I went to school there and spent 90% of my free time wandering)

    - Patricks Point - Super awesome park with a ton of hiking with awesome views of the rocky coastline.

    - Prairie Creek/Redwood SP/NP - I love this place and it's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Towering redwoods and you can either camp beneath them or on the beach with the gigantic Roosevelt Elk. This is where Star Wars and Jurassic Park were filmed.

    - Hayden Flat - Campground right on the trinity river off of the 299. One of my favorite roads to drive and some incredible fishing and kayaking/rafting can be had here

There's probably a bunch that I'm forgetting, but if you have any questions about any of these just PM me.

Rock stacking = either stacking rocks to get over a obstacle or people will stack rocks on top of one another to create a sorta rock formation (tower). ;)

San Bernardino National Forest has some very mellow campgrounds. Good way to escape the heat and go on some hikes

El Capitan State Beach, just north of Santa Barbara. Not really for off roading trails (right off the PCH, actually) but very nice Cliff-side camping and beach access.

    Photos thanks to Google maps!

Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.
+1 for Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite.

Also good (my favorite), Lodgepole Campground in Sequoia.

Beach spots, Leo Carrillo, McGrath, Thornehill Broome.

@mjs90 Thank you for your list! Just got back from Big Pine Creek and it was amazing! Did the 10 mile hike to the lakes and it was more than worth it! 5505E31B-276A-4675-8C46-02A776CE44C0.jpg

Anyone know a campground or a spot that you can camp beside or really close to a river, stream or lake? Kids have been dreaming of such a place. TIA.

Rock creek lake near mammoth is cool if you want an established campsite.

If you want more of a backcountry spot, Laurel lake is cool too and in the same general area as rock creek.

My brother lives in Big Pine, married in to a Family that owns roughly 180 acres outside of town. They also own a cabin where you park to hike to all the lakes, 1st, 2nd, 3rd... I also organized a pack in for a buddies bachelor party out of there as well, which I would highly recommend to anyone who would be in to something like that, Murt (the outfitter) is the man. Everyone likes to go West of the 395, but there are some real gems east of the 395 where no one is around and the fishing is so money. Pretty stoked for the fall, less people, crisper weather, my favorite time of year up there.
