    Hi everyone!

I just found this thread after I moved to the area and it's become my go-to for at-work reading; I'm definitely going to have to plan some of the farther trips I've seen people recommend up in the Sierras etc. In the meantime, I'm trying to go camping this weekend to test out the sleeping platform I just built in my camper shell and am looking for recommendations on where to go.

Optimally it'd be more secluded camping in the Angeles National Forest just north of LA (though I guess everyone wants that), but I'll settle for anything. Preferably with some long hikes to hike/trail run/mountain bike on. I've found a bunch of official campsites but would prefer to stay out of a designated site (I'm not sure exactly what the rules are here)...

Anyone got any recommendations? I appreciate any insight you guys might have!

It depends on what your radius is? I'm compiling a list with the suggestions in this thread but i'm not done yet. I'll probably post it in the SoCal region as it's for campsites from the greater LA area as a base.

I would suggest San Bernardino Mountains or San Jacinto Wilderness as nearby options that are not in the Angeles National Forest for some relative seclusion. If those are options, i'll post more specifics.

IMG_20180930_143341.jpg Those sound like great recommendations! I'm currently in the Camp Pendleton area and my radius for a normal weekend is 2-3 hours of driving (just enough to get away from the hustle and bustle of the coast).

I ended up going up to the Angeles National Forest and just going to a developed campsite which wasn't terrible. I camped out of the back with my girlfriend. That's my current setup^, worked pretty well for the first trip lol.

I'll have to check out the San Jacinto area next. I've gone mountain biking near there but haven't explored it too much.

Check out Thomas and Santa Rosa Mtn, there are yellow post sites on each one.

So what are your recommendations for a mid-November campground relatively close to San Diego? Only real requirements is that we can have a campfire (so guess that means a fire ring) and it be in the forest. First time taking some friends out car camping so relatively accessible is a plus.

Saw him when we were rolling the tent up in the morning. Who knows where he was throughout the night...

East of California City....lots of trails and relics to explore. You can make it as desolate as you want. I did not see another campfire or hear another vehicle all evening. I did however, see two pairs of glowing eyes circling the campsite on separate occasions.
