Looking for a spot within 2-3 hours of the Bay Area that has legit camping spot (preferably lake/river front) + some lowkey trails. Nothing major for the trails as some of the old heads will be in the trucks with us. Appreciate any insights fam!

One of my favorite places is the Virginia Lakes area in the eastern Sierra (Lee Vining, CA). It has a simple gravel road trail that was the first time I took my Taco off paved road. But that may not meet your 2–3 hours criterion depending on which part of the Bay Area you’re in.

A legit camping spot nearby that I’m aware of is Laguna Mountain, but there’s no lake or river.
