I have a 2007 prerunner v6 and recently got a check engine light and the code that is coming up is P0018, I know that is for the Camshaft Position Sensor, however I am not noticing any difference to the way it runs prior to the code coming up. I have cleared it twice, but not sure if I need to replace the sensor or not.

That would be one of the first times i have heard of that.

More than likely its a VVTi unit on the front of the cam. Does it ever start up and act real strange during the first 10-20 seconds of running after sitting for awhile? Theres a lockout pin in the vvti that has been known to go bad or stick that makes it to where the cam doesnt get locked out before oil pressure is built up enough for the VVTi assembly to function properly.

its a correlation code means that usually the timing is off. i would clear the light and see if it comes back. sometimes it will suck up some junk and it will not let the cam gear work right and it will throw that code too

Doesn't to act strange during the first 10-20 seconds. Is the lockout pin an easy thing to fix?

The common fix is the lockout pin for the VVTi? Could it be the sensor and I just need to replace it?

I have cleared it twice and it came back both times.

the vvti assembly needs to be replaced which requires removal of the entire cam chain assembly, which blows.

Maybe try replacing just the CPS first (though i think its kid of a bitch to get to as its at the back of the motor if im not mistaken)

Have you done the obvious? Look for rodent damage. They love those wires. Do that before getting too crazy.

The VVT-I AND cam position sensors are on the front. Look at the valley near where time timing cover and heads meet the block.
