Have not. I'm hesitant to as to not compromise other parts in that seemingly delicate area

    Ah.
My last advice for stubborn bolts is to apply heat. But thats probably one area you dont want too much heat. Maybe use heat gun instead of propane torch.

I see. Makes sense. However, it will fit in where I need it now as I have taken apart the fan and other things in front of it. Does your tight quarters driver generate as much torque as the pistol type ? Probably not.

yes the big one is 350 foot lbs vs the little one 180 foot lbs

I don't think the torque matters as much when you are on that particular bolt

it is the hammering impacts that really loosen the bolt, and 180 is nothing to sneeze at

I am going to borrow a friend's air impact driver tonight. As for electric ones, I have all kinds at home already but I doubt they'll give me the torque.

Correction: I have an electric drill (which I seldom use because I use a battery one) that can be adapted to be an impact driver. But I think it's not as powerful as the one you linked to. So I guess I should say I don't have a PROPER electric impact driver

Those Hammerhead units are rad! Too many times a impact has been to big, and a air ratchet doesn't have enough power. Add to cart!

So, ideally, if money were out of the equation, a well equipped backyard mechanic would have both a Hammerhead and a regular pistol-style impact driver, correct ?

Efficiency (speed) is not my concern so I think my little 4.2 gal compressor will be fine. If I have to wait to repump the tank after 2-3 bolts, that is OK. Because, with all the present tools and kayaking equipment, I don't have much room left in my 100 sq ft shed for a water heater sized air compressor. As for the lift, I'll be OK keeping it minimalist using a 3T floor jack.

Because, you see, I can manually manipulate probably 97% of bolts on my truck and most other vehicles, of course at a much slower speed than if I used pneumatic impact drivers. I plan to use pneumatic tools only when I can't muscle it out. Since I am not doing this professionally, speed is not my concern.

I use this, even on the most stubborn nuts/bolts. I've had nuts/bolts that have threads all galled up, they're practically welded together. But this impact wrench has no problem zipping them off. Saved me many times.

I borrowed a 1/2" pistol style impact driver from a friend. My GF held the open wrench with a cheater to counter the motion. Came off easy breezy.

Also, I did both bolts (on both sides of the engine) and my 4.2 gal air compressor didn't even need to refill. I think that compressor is fine for the occasional (rare) automotive air needs. Contrary to what our supersized, "BIGGER IS BETTER" society wants you to think, you don't always need the biggest tool out there...impact_driver.jpg

Glad to hear the impact driver worked. I love reading your threads. You have a natural talent for getting people fired up.

Thanks for your remark. I put getting things done first and I don't mind pissing people off and making enemies in the process. Many people think I am an asshole because I pretty much always take a blow torch to anything that stands in my way of attaining my goal and being clueless about something don't make a ding in my confidence to learn and get it done. Haters gonna hate...
