My neighbor wants to buy my 2006 Tacoma SR5, 2.7L, 5 speed manual transmission, 2WD and Access Cab with 135K miles that I bought new 14 years ago.

I can’t sell it to him until I find a replacement.

Like my ’06, I would really like to buy another SR5, 2.7L, 2WD with Access Cab but it will have to be with the auto transmission. Preferred color would be Quicksand or Silver Sky Metallic.

I’m in rural upstate NY and there isn’t any within 250 miles. Probably more than that.

The same thing in a basic SR with the SR Convenience Package would be acceptable too but none of those are around either. Silver Sky Metallic for color.

There are many choices if I want 4WD but I don’t want 4WD.

Judging from discussions on the forum, it looks like Tacoma’s are in short supply all over the good ole USA.

    Are there any near you?

I would keep the '06 but I'm not sure if I trust it. The slave cylinder has failed twice. Once at 48K under warranty and again at 104K. Had to be towed in both cases. Both times, not too inconvenient so I was lucky. Not sure if it will fail again.

Try "Advanced Search" on Cars.com, plug the zip code you want and see what is out there.

Contact a dealer, have them find one nationally and get it to you or have them put in a build request for one. Alternatively find a used one on the many different used car sites.
Bear in mind finding a rwd truck in NY is going to be hard so you’ll probably have to travel to pick it up unless you buy it new through a dealer, whom will take care of transportation for you. Also the newer trucks don’t come with a LSD differential. It tries to mimic it by cutting power and applying the brake to the spinning wheel, but in my opinion these don’t perform as well as the mechanical LSDs in the older trucks in snow and other slippery conditions.

You just described my truck. Sr, automatic, 2.7, access cab, 2wd, no back jump seats, but it’s mgm colored. Didn’t know people looked for stuff like this.

COVID really diminished inventories. I have several good sized dealers near me that usually have between 30-40 Tacomas on their lots, last month, the most they had was 4. One dealer near me did however increase their count to 9 recently so it looks like inventory is starting to come back in. Be patient if you can and let inventory increase. Dealers are holding the upper hand right now when it comes to pricing.

Just finding a 2020 access cab is hard enough here in the northeast even back in feburary when i bought my truck. There were a very few scattered throughout new england but none with the exterior color and options/accessories i wanted. I ended up having it built. I could imagine what its like now with this covid-19 spiking up again.

Hey, thanks for the link. That's pretty much the truck I would be looking to buy. It's about 250 miles away.

    I sent them an email.

My dealer is supposed to call me today to see if he found something. There are one or two around that have the Utility Package with reduced features, but I'll wait for one that I like.

And as many of you have posted (and thank you for that), Tacoma inventories are on the skinny side right now. 4WD's are definitely more common around here. 2WD's are about 3%.

There are a couple decent candidates in NJ down towards NYC. About 300 miles, 6 hour drive.

Still looking for one closer and I'll see if the local dealer can build one.

All the usual diesel truck mods- fuel system upgrade, programmer, CAI, intake manifold, 60MM stealth turbo
I know on the west coast some dealerships “dealer trade” with each other and I’d imagine they do that there too. My wife recently got a new Jeep (yeah I know please don’t be hatin) and what she wanted was hard to come by and those that were out there the dealers weren’t budging much in price. Finally found a dealer who was not totally arrogant, found what we wanted and gave a fair price all around. I guess Jeep sales have skyrocketed from covid and the Jeep factory closed for a while so supplies are low- probably the same scenario with Tacoma’s.
All I can say is hold out for the truck you want- it’s out there. Nothing worse than buying something that you have regrets about. Good luck!!!

Just an FYI, typically if the dealer is using stock images that means it is on order but not at the dealership yet. I checked the VIN on this one. It was ordered in March so it should be arriving any day now. Mine was February and I took delivery two weeks ago.

    Thanks Crypto,
I checked their web site and they do have a couple. The SR5 is a V6 in 4X4. And they have 4 SR's but all of them with the Utility Package that removes the back seats, etc.

    Thanks for looking for me.
