Anyone else have this problem? I can’t see shit with the shell on when the weather is cold. Backing up is sketchy as hell, and even just driving around I can barely see headlights behind me. Also my backup camera isn’t really useful during the rain

HAHAHHA I have the same problem! I don't even use my rear view mirrors! I have tint on my back windshield and tint on my soft topper screen

I swapped out my reserve lights to LED.. that kinda help backing up

Have you ever heard of defrosters for a camper shell? Just curious if that’s a thing

Had the same issue with a roof top tent and rear swing out.

You just get used to it.

I'm not sure but you can probably put a chemicals or something to prevent your camper shell from getting frosty overnight..

Upgrade the reverse lights to the gy6.35 HIR's, also treat the camper shells rear window with some rain-x to help keep it clean and bead off more rain. It will feel normal after a while. You'll eventually just use the side mirrors if it becomes too much of an issue.

If you ran a 12V line into the bed you could easily power a portable 12V defroster, you just need to be a little creative with mounting and pointing it at the window because they're normally designed for mounting on the dashboard toward the windshield.

How old is the backup camera? The technology on them has improved a lot over the past few years, you could try shopping around for upgrades if it's been a while. My brand new one works fine in the rain.

Short answer would be no. Long answer would be it could be made to, but not easily. You would basically have to set up 3 of them, and leave enough wire on the center slider that it would be movable. I just used it on the rear window of my topper. I never have a problem with the front window of the topper.

I’ve driven a good amount of box trucks and vans for work where you don’t even have a middle rear view mirror. It isn’t a scary thing anymore once you start making your side mirrors more important. I just drove from CO to MA with my camper fully packed and could not see a thing out the back. Never was an issue or concern.

OMG; it's called "driving a truck"! Those side mirrors are your friends! There are literally MILLIONS of semi-tractor/trailers out there that do it every day.

Blind spot mirrors help me. I rarely ever use my rear view since I have a cap.

I take it OP has never driven a commercial vehicle before.

As previously stated by all, just use the side view mirrors.
If you want extra viewing, upgrade the camera and add led lights in the reverse bulbs, maybe even two small cubes in the bumper.
If none of the above, remove the cap and sell it here, someone is always looking for one.

Welcome to the club... lol. I can't see anything out my rear-view mirror or reverse camera. Side mirrors it is!

Them windows are dirty as hell. I'd start by at least cleaning them.

But yeah, when you have 3 layers of tinted windows, they're going to be hard to see through at night.

As for your camera, just walk back there and wipe the lens off with your finger, takes 2 seconds.

But as others said, use your side mirrors more.

Being that the camper on my truck is solid and I can't see anything out the back I replaced the rear view mirror with a back up camera that replaces the mirror with a mirror shaped monitor.

It's a touch screen so you can move the view up and down by touching it. It's super easy to turn on and off so you can eliminate glare at night and turn it back on just by touching the screen.

It has a front facing camera on the back of the monitor. Both cameras record so you'll also have a front and rear facing dash cam with a parking mode.

The best part is the field of view is so wide I have zero blind spots.

Night vision is okay...that part could be better.
