I got a 99 with a 2.7 with 270,000. Cylinder 3 is misfiring so I put new plug and wires and did a compression test which was fine. I suspect its the injector but I would like to test the coil pack first. Thought it would be a good test to switch the spots of the two coil packs and make sure the same cylinder misfired. They seem interchangeable but wasn't sure enough to do it after seeing the cylinder numbers stamped on them. Does anyone know whether it is safe or has done it before?

    Yep, no problem there.
I would think that if a coil pack was bad you'd have misfires on two cylinders though.

Yes they are the same just the cylinder numbers stamped on them are different, you can swap them without issue.

Each coil fires two cylinders at once....
    1 and 4 ,,,,, and then 2 and 3.

If it was a bad coil....most likey the paired fired off that coil would miss...
and these are the old fashion coils.....oem's can last crazy long time....
way longer than the coil over spark plug ones....

on engine electrical problems.....always check ALL your grounds first.....

How many miles on current injectors.....oem ones last a really long time....
    aftermarket ones.....not so much....

Is it only 2 coils on a 99? My 2000 definitely has 4… 1 per cylinder. Not sure when that started

I would have thought they would both misfire as well. But its a lot easier to switch the coils than to access the injector so I figured I just as well check in case it was something weird.
