Can a 2009 TRD Off-Road suspension be easily improved upon?

I'm thinking about replacing/upgrading my Bilstein rear shocks and front coil-overs to improve the on-road ride of my 2009 TRD Off-Road.

Is this doable/worthwhile? Are there any products out there that will render a big improvement?

I guess what I am hoping to do is attain the ride quality of a 2022 Tacoma (or better).

FWIW, surprisingly, with 119,000 miles on the original shocks, coil-overs, and progressive-rate springs, everything still seems to be working, and AFIK, nothing is "shot".

    Thanks for any replies.

As many on here will tell you: put the shocks from a 3rd gen onto your truck. I have 3rd gen TRD-offroad shocks on my 2007 Prerunner and they ride great. So buy a used low mileage set of 3rd gen takeoffs and slap those on your truck and you’ll have pretty much that exact ride quality you’re looking for.

Also make sure to check your tire pressure, if it is way over the recommended amount (found in your doorjam sticker) then air it down to that number or even slightly below it. As long as you’re not doing any heavy hauling you’ll have better on road performance with the suggested tire pressure.

    Thanks.

Do you happen to know the Bilstein part numbers of the 3d gen coil-overs and shocks?

Personally I would try finding used ones on Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, or even here on TW. Getting them used saves you a ton of money and headache trying to find part numbers.

Thanks. And any of the 3rd gen years are compatible with my 2009?

(Hard to believe so little changed over such a long period)

Any 3rd gen components will work, including UCAs but excluding LCAs.

It is Toyota after all, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it until the market forces us to.
