Cars are quicker and faster now. A 35yr old 80hp car has no business being on the road now. It belongs in a museum or junkyard.

I really enjoy the power of the 2nd gen tacoma getting on the on-ramp by my house - i can nearly hit the speed of traffic now, if i try (about 55mph). With my old 4runners i would have to merge at 40mph because that's as fast as they could go. Trust me, it feels wonderful knowing you're not going to get mowed down by a semi. I really love my GS350 for that on-ramp, i can hit 65mph.

I agree in most places, the 2nd gen tacoma is more than adequate, but there are times and places that i would love alittle more oomph, but much less now than with the older trucks.

I'd be dead in that tercel... LOL...

Oh I understand that I just saw a few kind of hint at it being a safety hazzard being slow and an 8 sec 0-60 isn't unsafe.

8 sec 0-60 is slow by todays standards, and frankly the faster the vehicle is the safer you CAN merge. 8 sec 0-60 isnt what anyone would call a safety hazard imo, but its still "relatively" slow.

Well around here they merge onto a 65 going 40.... And the lane ends short when it merges.... Almost always have to dead stop to get behind a big rig.

I think people wouldn't complain about the 0-60 in 8s so much if the 3.5L got a lot better MPG than the 4.0L. Right now it looks bad because the 3.5L has more power but is slower than the 4.0L while getting only a tiny bit better gas mileage.

I have to admit the very first thing I heard about and was interested in with the new Taco is gas mileage. I was hoping for a significant improvement.

So 5 pages and no one even owns the new truck to test? I was wondering the same thing as the op.

My point is how de-railed this thread was right from the start. I think the new Tacoma doesn't look as good, but the interior is up to par. I don't feel the second gens are all that slow and the new one says 276(indicated). I would be happy if mine had anywhere near that number.
