Can a battery tender be used to maintain charge on two identical batteries in parallel?

Wasn't sure where to post this question, perhaps Reddit would have been better...anyway, I have two 12v deep cycle batteries connected in parallel (+ to + and - to -) and wondering if it will be bad or perhaps worthless to connect a battery tender to one of them.

Most battery tenders have some built in logic so it knows the battery type (AGM, flooded, Lithium) and voltage (6 or 12) but some also do wild things like vary the current and then trickle it later and stuff to prevent "memory" and things like that.

So I'm wondering if I will hurt these two identical batteries (from same lot, even) if I hook up a tender. Thoughts?

It will work fine. Batteries wired in parallel are just one large battery for all real purposes. You should already have all positives loads on a single terminal and all negative loads in a single terminal of the second battery. Attach the charger similarly and it will charge both batteries as a single unit.

I don't see why not, most diesel trucks and equipment have 2 or more batteries either connected in parallel for 12v systems or series for 24v systems and they do just fine as long as the batteries are similar age and state of charge.

Should be no different with using a maintainer.
