brand new, 23 toyota tacoma came with an electronic tailgate lock from the dealer. Lock broke one year into ownership and found out its not OEM.....

I no longer live in the state that I bought the vehicle, since its a different dealership but "toyota" but the parts are third party installed from another dealer, my paperwork on the window says "electronic tailgate lock" I open up the tailgate to fix the broken lock and it looks like a pop and lock, NOT OEM. who would be liable to fix it? toyota in general? or ONLY that dealer i bought it from 1200 miles away? What a shitty situation. I am covered under warranty but nobody will honor it except one place 6 states away I have an appointment tomorrow with it to be looked at the dealer in the new state but the guy on the phone said dont hold my breath for it being covered even though it was installed as a dealer/port option and its a third party thing, id have to drive back to the original dealer forever away.

    What a joke.

edit-the text is weird because i copied from a reddit post.

This sounds like some Southeast Toyota nonsense.

You'd have to read the sales contract.

The dealer that sold it to you could make it right.
But they aren't going to want to. The reason is, They'll being paying 100% of the cost at shop rate.
Where as, if you were to go to them (original dealer), They'd be in it for Tech pay and parts. Tech pay is NOT shop rate.

No, 3rd party would only be warrantied from purchasing location.

There is zero chance any other dealer would fix it, it would be out of pocket for a dealer that you didnt even buy from.

It's bad luck but part of ownership unfortunately.
