Gotcha..how long has the sleeving really been standard? Wasn't aware of it myself, but I don't work in the field and have never taken apart or pulled an engine..

When you have multiple deaths from the same cause (vehicle's exhaust), I think it'd be a good self-preservation rule not to tempt fate... You go ahead and keep sucking on tail pipes though, let us know how it works out for you.

It was a 2005 or newer, I'd have to find the article but I do remember hearing that on the radio while my power was out in MA. I am certain the tailpipe was blocked because my wife was reminding me to check the ones on our trucks especially after hearing that.

15 minutes is WAY too fast for a properly functioning system. :)

The kid was in the car for 15 minutes, it was running longer than that. The car was already warm, which is why the father put the kid in there to begin with.

You go ahead and live in a bubble of fear. If you don't hear from me, it's because I'm too busy living life. ;)

As I said, too many variables to make a life rule around. :)

Outside in a lightning storm? Sure.

Outside in a Montana lightning storm on a golf course? NO WAY!!

    .................that's all I'm trying to say. :)

A guy I used to work/live with once left one of our work trucks idling all night on a job site. It was a Ford F-350 with a dump body and a Triton V10 gas engine... He didn't realize he locked the keys in it until late that night, and the job site was 45 mins away.

So we go there in the morning, and the damn thing was running! Keys locked in it, engine on. Whoops. We eventually got the door unlocked, and it never acted like it had any damage on the truck, although boss was pissed because it was on E and we had just filled the tank the day before.
