09 base Taco 148k auto 2wd----Im getting a high frequency vibration at road speeds then when i let off the gas to a stop the truck acts normal. I was taking a look down below and noticed about a 1/4" of play between the tranny and shaft ujoint. U can hardly tell on the pictures (top of center) one shows some shiny steel then turned the other way it dosent. Weird thing is the tranny ujoint has the most play vs the other two seem fine. Have any of you 120k plus guys Experienced any of this ? Also what is typical lifespan of these Ujoints ...IMG_20170209_225256.jpg IMG_20170209_225245.jpg

That rust is what is left of the needle bearing. Change them all. Upgrade to a serviceable u joint.

That is without a doubt your problem. Like stated above go ahead and replace them all to greaseable ujoints. 120k out of a ujoint isn't bad. I am lifted and drive kind of hard so mine don't last long at all

you have exceeded it "service life". not to be a dick but it service life it just how long it lasts, no real set milage. just like our "lifetime" trans fluid, lifetime is just a bs word, doesn't mean a humans life time, just the lifetime of the fluid which could be 60k miles.

As with many components, there is no recommend changeout interval, but they should be inspected every service.

For good quality U Joints, the Spicer units with the grease zerk can't really be beat for the price. 05-11 4wd Tacoma part is Spicer part 5-213x. Just picked them up for About $22 each at Oreillys.

Guess what I'm doing this weekend.

That is a serviceable drive shaft and spicer makes the ujoints for it. Also it has grease fittings so u can grease it during service

OK WHO EVER SAID that rust stain is whats left of your needle bearings was spot on along with other comments. Picked up 3 USA made Spicer greasable units / Local Oreilys/ all the same pt#. at 24$ a piece and had them changed out this a.m WOW that was definately the problem. Its sooooo smoooth n quiet the way it should be. If you pointed me in the right direction...A SINCERE THANK YOU TO FELLOW FORUM MEMBERS. pictured are the worn and the newly installed u joints. the Chinese units were 16$ with lifetime but nah. buy once cry once. not just that but the Spicers just looked higher qaulity.
