Can anyone answer why no 4X4?

    In loose sand with 2wd you can have more weight, but no thanks for me.
    Weight only helps with traction if it's over the wheels that are spinning under power.

    Easy, everyone.....




    The drag created by the front diff, when off roading is negligable. The Prerunner and the 4x4 have the same chasis, suspensions and shocks. Truck for truck, I bet they would both go just as far in 2 wheel drive. Silverback is right, in that any resistance from the front drive wouldnt affect the performance off road. And the extra weight...Well, Im not so sure that would matter either. We are talking about 300# +/-...that could be the weight of one buddy and a cooler of food and drinks, and Im not sure I ev er had to throw someone out to get a little farther in one of my trucks.

    1-2mpg is 6-11 percent of fuel economy at 18mpg.
    The reason a 4wd truck has a 6-11% decrease in fuel economy is a direct result of the additional friction and weight.
    I'm not saying that a 4wd is going to get stuck everywhere in 2wd, I'm saying if you put the two trucks side by side the 2wd will go further, even if it's only an inch.
    If the 4wd gets stuck the 2wd will most likely be getting stuck too, but under certain conditions it will make it further.
    I've seen this in person.

    A 4wd in 2wd doesn't spin the front tires unless it's locked in 4wd. Common silverback, you should know this....:rolleyes:
    What good does additional weight do in the front if the front wheels aren't spinning?

    Both guys drove both trucks, the 4x2 went further, faster every time.
    This was in loose sand at a construction site.
    Two Chevy Silverados.

    You know what happened later that day? The 2wd guy got stuck show boating and had to get snatched out.

    You guys are wrong, a STOCK Taco 2WD Prerunner OR will go further than a STOCK Taco 4WD OR in 2WD.








    You have to put the 4WD in 4lo to engage the locker :)
