New rims, Discount tire mounted and balanced. Steering wheel shimy and vibration felt in seat. Discount tire rebalanced the next day, says everything looks good. Problem continues. There were 0 issues before these new rims. Have another appt. friday. I have to have a bad rim. How do I find out which one?

Could be that their machine is out of calibration, could be that they aren't doing something right, could be a high spot on a tire, etc...was this road force or standard spin balancing? as long as the machine is running true, and the wheel is clean, a dial indicator would show any errors in concentricity

have you double checked air pressure, I usually find they have aired up over 40psi after tire service

Tires are same, pressure consistent, road force. I will repeat, I had zero issues with my old rims and this tire combo.

@greyeyezz Discount Tire uses a Road Force balancer and would detect an out of round or bent wheel. I did not see where they posted the hub diameter of the wheel you purchased, so if the wheel is not hub centric at 106.10mm then you must use an E/T lug to center the wheel properly. Something you might want to bring up when you go in for your Friday appointment.

So you recommend E/T lugs over hub centric rings?

I passed your info on BTW thanks.

@greyeyezz larger hub bore sizes typically don't have hub rings readily available. If you have them, then by all means use them. The E/T lugs would be used in addition to the rings.

Could you post a link to the lugs you would recommend?
My lug seats are flat I'm 90% sure. That taper on the edge is probably 1/32 so any conical type lug probably won't work.

The wheel appears to be a mag seat wheel. Should not require an ET lug, correct me if I’m wrong.

Did you use mag seat lugs? Correct you can not use an acorn seat lug.

@greyeyezz I do apologize, if your wheels require the factory mag lug, then the E/T lug nut option would not work for those wheels. I mistook your wheels to be aftermarket like the DX4 Beast.

In my experience, out of round rims are often detectible with your eyes when the wheel is on the balancer. However, assuming all is well with their equipment, it's also possible it's a tire (or more than one) causing the issue. This can be harder to detect visibly. The best way to locate an issue of this nature is a road-force balancer. These balancers have a pressurized roller that simulates road surface contact while measure the "roundness" of the wheel and tire. It can detect things like shifted belts in the tire or manufacturing defects that cause an out of round condition.

Other considerations are the hub size and lug nuts (Toyota trucks use both hub centric and lug centric wheels from the factory) as well as the method of balancing. Make sure the shop is not static balancing your wheels. This would be indicated by the lack of weights applied just inside the face of the wheel. Static balancing places weights only on the inside edge of the wheel, while dynamic balancing positions weights on both the inside and outside edges of the wheel.

The issue is the wheels not being hub centric.

Possibly, it appears they have a 130.4 hub bore in the description on the website.Although since the wheels are a mag seat wheel this may not be as big a factor @Discount Tire may chime in on this.

Vibration issues result when the assembly is not centered on the vehicles hub. Hub centric wheels or hub centering rings are required to make sure the wheel is as close to factory as possible. @gotoman1969 the 130.4mm that you see in the description is the backspace of 5.13inches. I do not see the wheels center bore in the description. 106.1 would be ideal.
