I'm looking for anyone that might have some insight on an issue I'm having with a 2012 Tacoma 4.0, trying to use HP tuners and even having the dealership reflash the vehicle and it keeps bricking the ECU, my question is if you have a can bus communication issue can that stop the reflash process even if you can communicate with the ECU? Thanks in advance for any help on this cause I believe it's the core issue but can't find anything on Google that says can bus communication issues can stop a reflash.

The guy is a wizard when working with tunes.

Maybe he can give some thoughts on what may cause this?

If you're able to perform the virtual read process, your can-bus network should be good to go. Are you having issues getting the flash process started or is it failing mid-flash?

A few things I'd suggest you look at based on my experiences:

    1) Ensure your battery is in a good state of health or you have a charger hooked up. Also ensure you have all sources of current draw turned off (dome light, Fan, Radio, amps, etc.)

    2) Make sure you're USB cable between the MPVI2 and laptop is not kinked or damaged. A faulty USB cable can disrupt the communications process and create a situation where you'd brick an ECU. My recommendation is to always replace a suspect cable, and not move the laptop around while flashing, there-by creating a communications issue that could lead to bricking the ECU.

    3) Follow the on screen prompts exactly. More than 3-4 times have I had people brick ECU's because they don't follow the on screen prompts from the VCM Editor. If you do not follow them (the key off, wait then, then key on sequence) you can have issues.
