I don't know if this has been asked and answered prior to my question...can crawl control be added to my 2016 TRD 4x4?

The best way to add Crawl Control is to take your TRD Sport down to the dealer, go inside and find your salesman, sit down and talk about trade in value, and get a TRD OR.
In all seriousness, anything can be done, its just a matter of how much you are wanting to spend, and I imagine that will be a rather expensive feature to add on. I don´t know what all would be needed, but it has to have some sort of sensors to detect wheel spin, the computer would need to be programmed to control acceleration, and who knows what else.
The big question is, do you really need crawl control?

You would be better off adding a locker and forgetting about the crawl control.
Most guys who have it wont use it.

Why do you think you need crawl control? People have gone through every environment imaginable for years without it.

I have used it only to see how it works. Feel it is more of a gimmick. Yes get the locker.

Learn to left foot brake. That's how i control and smooth out my "crawl" (make sure its in 4low too). Also adding a locker would help especially with traction in the twisty and loose stuff.

I don't have it, can't get it, haven't really needed it. I have 4lo and manual mode auto trans, and no crawl noise.
But if I had it, I'd have to use it just because its there.

But you have to ask yourself this question...How did those 1st-2nd gen guys ever do it without it??

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

We (OFF ROAD TRD) owners had a locker on the 1st Gen and A-TRAC on the 2nd Gen...
Crawl is A-TRAC with fine tuning (MTS actually).
The superior part of A-TRAC/ MTS is that it provides the non-spin that we needed lockers for but the new system does not conflict with steering. This makes trail driving in low range smoother and safer than with lockers, that cause significant binding.
A-TRAC and MTS also gives the locker-like traction on both the front and rear tires. The factory locker only stops spin on the rear.
I have driven my 2010 Tacoma to all the places I need a locker for (in my 2001 and 2005) using only A-TRAC, and it was an easier, smoother climb or crawl. Having the non-slip system on the front tires too really makes the Tacoma unstoppable!

    True that!
I really got to love A-TRAC as I had it in my previous 13yr old 4R and on my new one. It is fast reacting. I only have the TRAC on my '16 4X4 SR5 Taco and it works well, but I feel the difference in the two systems. A-TRAC is awesome IMO.

    Cheers!

My 2 buddies who have it say its a joke and don't use it and they are armored up trail goers too, not mall crawlers.

Someone did it in the 4Runner forums (added Crawl Control/MTS to an SR5; I believe). He had to get an all new BCM from a Trail Edition (trd offroad now) along with the selection equipment and harnesses. I'm fairly sure it cost a lot; juice definitely is not worth the squeeze. I'm also fairly certain he did it before the 4Runners changed their multi-informational display from above the radio to the gauge cluster (like our tacos). I'm not sure how you'd get feedback of what was selected without an all new gauge cluster from a TRDOR as well. I know the TRD Sports are nearly identical but they don't offer the information screen with pitch and roll, so who knows what else is missing.

So to mirror everyone else's thoughts - get yourself a compressor, locker and higher gearing for similar pricing and get way more value for your money spent.

The TRD off-road also has a different brake booster used in order to operate the crawl control.

As a TRDOR model owner, I don't care for the crawl control. Hasnt worked in any situation I've tried it. I love love the locker though.

If you don't have you ain't adding it. Brake booster, ECU, electronics, ect all are different. It would cost you thousands to try and do. If you want it that bad, it's easier to go and buy another truck
