Ok, a close friend of mine & relative of my wife texted me a couple days ago, "can we swap vehicles for the weekend, I need to run some stuff to the dump"..
    A couple facts..
    1. This is a really cool dude I am glad is a relative but dang..
    2. He played the mandolin in our wedding
    3. My Tacoma has 4,400 miles and not one scratch yet on it nor in the bed or tailgate.
    4. Yes I've only used it once offroad for camping.
    5. Yes I am being over protective in it's 1st year.
    6. This guy would do the same for me.
    7. This guy just traded his 2005 DCOR in for a Subaru a couple months ago.
    8. I have to drive a Subaru this weekend.

I feel like a jackass as I'll probably worry about this inanimate object all weekend.. What would you guys do?

Tell him to go to home depot and rent a truck for $20 or a beater on turo for similar.

Unless you'll be ok with, or think he'll be a stand up person and take responsibility for any scratches, dings, scuffs or flat tires that are increasingly likely to happen.

Like a Wyatt Earp/doc Holliday friendship? Loan it. Bed scratches? That reminds me of this kid who wouldn’t try to curbslide on his skateboard because he didn’t want to scratch the bottom.

It’s nice to say you’re a friend until you have to put your money where your mouth is. Just do it brah.

Instead of him borrowing the truck, is it possible for you to lend an extra hand?

I've been in a similar position. If you actually use your truck bed, you will get some scuffs here and there. I wouldn't stress too much about it.

I'm pretty anal about the paint and chassis, as I'm one of the ones that treat the frame/components twice a year.

If he is really a good friend....go with him and drive so you can take care of your truck. You'll sound like a dick if you tell him no . It's a truck...use it as a truck to help a friend.

In retrospect you could swap out for the weekend and then steal his subaru tweeters and put them in the Tacoma.

If he’s a close friend, you’d help him load and take his stuff to the dump.

That's a tough one. Knowing nobody will take care of it for you. On the other hand, it's a another thing to help people if you're able. I have been in a similar situation, I decided that I would free up my weekend and I'll drive my truck and help. Still able to help and making sure I was driving my truck. Another way is most things are just stuff, materials (granted some more expensive than others). I'm sure if you do it will be much appreciated and it will come back around even if for only the self gratitude of generosity.

Never lend the truck - not even to my brother.

If it's my friend, I'll lend my time and the truck and if I'm their friend, they'll supply the beer at the end.
