Oy, i dunno... I'm the kind of person that's anal about dings and scratches. If the truck got dinged -- even with the friend being super careful -- it would annoy me to no end. I'd see that damn ding every day for the rest of the time I owned the truck, and that would piss me off and THAT would damage the friendship. On the flip side not offering the truck could be a dick-friend move. So It's really no win. To be honest I was in this situation not long ago with a friend that wanted to take some old patio furniture to the dump. The idea of rusty, heavy, spindly stuff bing loaded into and taken out of the bed just gave me a cold sweat. I offered to help but the timing wasn't good, so then I just expained to my friend that I'm too obsesses about scratches and all he was understanding.

I would let him barrow it and out a tarp in the bed if it was me

Why do you guys even own a truck if you’re worried about the freakin’ truck bed getting scratched up?

The simplest answer for me is, with my truck, it's ingrained in my head that I can do it, but don't you do it..
That's the hard part for me..

Yea I totally get that for you, with a brand new truck. After you make the first scratch then it’s game on (for me, at least). I meant more the people who are balking at the idea of any scratches in the bed.

First off, I'm extremely OCD about my truck and wash it religiously. It's parked under a carport most of the time. Not a single scratch on the truck or the bed as of yet and I just passed the 16k mile mark. I do 'use it as a truck' but it's my second most valuable asset and I treat it as such. With all that said, I've loaned my truck to close friends and family before. If your family member is a responsible person he'll treat the truck as you do.

If there isn’t a single scratch or mark on the bed, it sounds like you don’t *really* need a truck lol.

It’s not the family/friend thing, it’s the other 4 million fruit cake drivers out there I’m worried about

Bro it's a Subaru. Just think of the millennial points you'll get. Throw on a douchey Jason Mraz hat, power shop at Sprouts and then hit up an indie coffee shop. Post it all on IG. Fuck yeah!!

#6 says it right there, if you were in his shoes he would do the same for you. The first thing I did with my brand new Taco a few days after bringing her home was load up full of steel targets to go to the desert to shoot. Those targets are heavy and jagged and lets just say the bed is not in new condition. I'm pretty anal about dings and scratches, wash my truck at least once a week sometimes twice a week but as long as its not on the paint.

My question is if he and his wife are likely doubling your annual income, then what prevents him from just renting a U-Haul / Home Depot truck to haul junk to the junkyard...

I would be more likely to loan a trailer, but again, these are also easily rented from U-Haul and very cheap to rent.

I suppose my stance would be different if your friend was asking for your help, and you were going to load it / drive it.

Let him use it or volunteer to help him. It's just a truck man.

My neighbor watched my house and paid for landscaping for 3 months for my house while I was in between states. Letting him use my truck to move a bed to relatives house was an easy decision.

There is a thread about "Best way to dry out the interior of a Tacoma" on TW. Its 1 or 2 years old. Anyway, somebody let his brother borrow his truck. His brother being conscientious didn't want to return a dirty truck; so he hosed it out.

The Subaru is the deal breaker. I wouldn't even let a Subaru owner sit in any vehicle I own .

I'd GIVE him the $20 to rent a U-Haul before I'd let him drive my truck to the dump.

Not just the bed damage but nails, screws or broken glass in the tires is almost guaranteed.
