The auto buying experience sucks. The industry needs reformed.

What other product does one buy new from a dealer representing the manufacturer where there is a "suggested" retail price.

just price the damn cars/trucks with a fair profit margin...pay the sales-douche a fair salary and be done with it.

fortunately I have mad negotiating skillz from years of new car buying experience, I hate it that dealers...especially the sales manager azzholes...purposely rip some buyers off.

I have always started at $2K below invoice, Have done really well with that strategy, i have never paid more than 500 to 1K over invoice.

Salespeople ALWAYS start by asking customers that one... LOL, that is just one of the 3 ways they'll make money off you.

Avoid this one in the early stages, they're selling you a 'monthy payment plan'. ;)

... Next comes the vehicle price agreement.

All in all, for most people out there with average to 'so-so' credit, it's not so much the great deal you got on the truck, it's the great deal you think you got. :D

I Like buying used cars from people instead of dealers. I recently was working with a dealer to purchase a new vehicle, test drove several and even took a longer test drive. At the end of the day, they could not find me a taco that had the color and configuration I wanted. I don't think they tried very hard. So I just purchased a 2007 with low miles that I'm happy with for now. I'll drive it a year and see what the 2013 models look like.

The dealer did not do me any favors. Told me they would give me a certain amount for my trade in then let me know they were going to sell it for a 50% profit. I just laughed inside and thought, do people really take you guys seriously?

Buying vehicles is a tricky game and there are lots of ways to play with numbers. If you can figure out what the dealer pays for the car including destination charges that can help you out a lot. The MSRP is just a number from Toyota of a suggested retail price. Also things to consider are rebates from Toyota, ask about and research online to find out about any of these incentives, from my understanding that is the only way you will ever get a vehicle for under true cost of the vehicle. On my recent new car purchase I left the dealership feeling I got a fair deal on the out the door price.

pay invoice the dealer still has about a 1,000 dollars coming his way in the form of hold back. they never want to talk about that during neg, but, its factored in. pay dealer invoice. basically that way they can move a truck which btw as great as tacomas are they really aren't flying off the shelf anymore due to gas prices over the last couple years. and you get a new truck for the cheapest you can get one.

Good friend from work will pick up his 2012 Tacoma tonight....list $29900 and he took a note for $21000.....they offered him $4000 for his trade ..Do the math and see the dealer made up a great distance with either the trade or their profit....;)

Best part is ,this Tacoma was in "Transit" while the deal was being "worked" and was sold basically 6 hours after "hitting" the lot....

Took the note which usually includes TT&L not sure this is possible but sounds intersting, I guess alot depends on which model of Tacoma and options. I don't believe dealerships will sell a vehicle that they do not make a cent on(got to keep the doors open)but who knows:)
