My 2002 Tacoma w/ auto trans. has started to make a quiet noise in the front of the floor shifter shroud when I put on the brake to shift from park into R or D. I don't want to get stuck somewhere, so can I bypass this system? Is this what the little do-dad is for in front of the shifter. Please help before I get stuck. Thanks for your consideration,
    marty

    welcome to tw.

im not exactly sure of a bypass for that, but that in front of the shifter is so you can put the truck in neutral if it wont crank. thats what i have used it for anyway. its basically a safety feature, so im not really sure.

the small cover will pop off, then you can use a screw driver to move it it,so it will unlock the shifter.
