Can I drive with the yellow side airbag sensor wires under the bench seat disconnected?

I want to leave the yellow wires disconnected after I reconnect the battery and then operate the vehicle with the yellow wires still disconnected. Any chance that will wreak any kind of havoc with anything, such as telling the steering wheel airbag "Hey the seat airbag is disconnected so apparently there's been an accident, so go ahead and explode in quagtire's face right now" ?

I wouldn't recommend it, but I happen to know some people who went on cross country road trips that way.

It won't explode, but the jury is still out whether the rest of the system would deploy when called upon.

You can but your SRS (airbag) system most likely will not function in the event of a collision.

The system would still likely work, but the secondary issue is, if another code triggers you won't know.

Not ideal. It's why most modders run a small resistor to simulate an airbag, but thats a slippery slope as well.

Thank you. Just curious, do you happen to know why those... acquaintances... went on road trips that way? Necessitated by seat mods? And did they use a resistor to simulate the air bag as @Bishop84 mentions?

I see. Good point about the other codes, thank you for that.

It's not the most reckless thing I've ever read here. There's tons of guys who openly admit to not wearing their seatbelts while driving which is sort of the first line of defense in an accident.

Seatbelt>airbags. Both is better. Should be fine, may throw a code but easy enough to remedy if it does. Let us know!

Your restraint system dash light will stay on.

Most code readers don't pick up abs or restraint codes, so if the disconnected air bag sensor disables the system, you won't know what the code is. Maybe it wont effect the rest of the system. I really don't know.

But, airbag codes don't shut the engine off, so to answer your question, yes, the truck should still run and drive.

The SRS System will be disabled when it fails the self test at startup.
In blunt terms the none of the airbags will function. It will also disable the seat belt restraint pre-tensioner squibs which are also controlled by the SRS Module.

Crash is detected and analysed, then Seat belt Pre-Tensioners activated, and finally the Selected Air Bags are deployed (Air Bag selection is via the crash sensors and seat occupation sensors).

I wouldn't do it, but I value my life.
