We use to heat them up and add a bunch of weight. But I have cut many a coils in my day! As long as the spring was linear and you got the proper shock it worked out ok and didn't stiffen the ride up a ton.

Edit: it appears as if the truck is on stands, which would explain that

I had a 64 Cadillac coupe Deville that I heated up the coils till it started to lower . It was very predictable and I got it very level. That way it fits the perch and doesn't sit funny in the perch area. The only reason I did that though was because what I wanted wasn't available . I then removed them and painted them So they wouldn't rust .

Sick yeah depending on the coil and if you know what you are doing you can cut them and they'll still sit right in the perches but some are just easier to heat and let lower. The only issue with the heating method is you are changing the metallurgy and spring rates but it works.

Your absolutely right but it technically only hardens it which is probably better on a lowered land yacht lol . Still rode like a Cadillac.

Hardening isn't good for a spring more brittle. But how much you harden them idk. I never had one crack just slow heat and pay attention and it worked fine.

Yeah- i did it on a ‘68 1600 Beemer, too. That thing could out corner any street legal Porche in its time, no power, but crazy cornering :)

Oh I know. That's why your not allowed to use heat when straightening a frame. I babied that thing and I never saw a problem with it .
