The driver or owner might not be a smoker but what about the passengers?

My truck was smoked in a lot before I got it. It stank. I gave it a really really good cleaning. I've had it for a bit more than 7 years now. The smoke smell is gone. It smells like other things but cigarette smoke is not one of them.

I do recall smelling smoke after about 3 years on a hot humid raining day in Arkansas.

If I could do it again I would say the smoke smell would be a deal breaker. I'm glad I have the truck but I should have kept looking.

Don’t forget about the headliner when cleaning or deodorizing. It’s like a sponge for smoke and other odors, plus the foam gets old and gets kind of funky on its own.

My '96 has never been smoked in so it is possible to fine one.
As had been mentioned, a GOOD auto detailed will most likely be able to clean any lingering residue from smoking.

However a large nation-wide cleaning company like Service Master or ServPro may be best able to help you as they are regularly contracted to clean homes that have caught fire and deep-cleaning of hotel rooms and offices that have been heavily smoked in. They have special equipment and chemicals specifically for that purpose.
