    I bought a 2015 Tacoma with the 1gr one owner 83k miles, I also have a 2022 5th gen 4Runner also with the 1gr but dual vvti (has about 40 more hp than the Tacoma 1gr)

    they’re both on 33inch wildpeaks and both have bilstein 6112 5160s and I believe they both have the same 5 speed auto transmission, so my 4Runner is newer and has 40 more hp granted it is a bit heavier than my taco, Tacoma has a camper shell but my Tacomas drives so much smoother and linear than my 4Runner, when I stomp on the gas for my 4Runner there will be a split second hesitation while the rpm shoots up and down shifts before scooting while on my Tacoma if I do the same the power band is almost more instant and smoother/linear

    I almost suspect the previous owner might have gotten a tune of sorts is there anyway to verify besides hooking up the ecu? Anyone else have a 5th gen 4Runner and notice the same difference?

    The only way I know of is to get the CALID (Calibration Identification) and CVN (Calibration Verification Number) which are easily retrieved by any OBDII scan too that supports Mode $09 and compare them to what belongs to your truck.

    The problem is Toyota doesn't publish that information that I'm aware of.

    @JustDSM your thoughts?

    As @Dm93 mentioned, the Cal ID/CVN combo would tell the story. I have a collection of stock CVNs, but they are pretty scattered and random. I'm not sure I'd have yours, and as mentioned, the data is not publicly available.

    If you're concerned about the 2G being tuned, the Cal ID might be a hint. Most 2015s would not likely have had the TSB/CUW performed to update the Cal ID, but it is common for any tuned 2G to have the latest Cal ID available. So if it is updated, there's a higher likelihood that it is tuned than not—but not a guarantee it is.

    304A3000 would be the original Cal ID.
    304A3100 would be the updated (potentially tuned) Cal ID.
