Can I get by with a 4x2 if I'm just using my truck to pull a boat?

I got a story to tell which will help you decide. So i have a first gen tundra which i tow a boat with which is around 3k lbs like yours with boat and trailer. I have always launched it and pulled it out of water in 2wd and never used 4wd. Im In cali and were in a drought so one time on the ramp i had to go deeper cuz the water is lower and in 2wd my truck would just spin the tires. Put it in 4hi and bam pulled the boat out with ease. So long story short keep your 4wd

    From a resale standpoint, I wouldn't trade my 2014 4wd for a 2018 2wd.

There was a short period of time in my life that I had to live without a 4x4. That period was short for a reason. The first time you end up stuck with your 2wd you will be right back on this thread telling everyone they told you so. Could you do it, ya you could probably manage. Should you do it, no absolutely not! Plus like everyone is saying, resale. I would never buy a used 2wd truck so I feel like you would end up getting stuck with it once you realize you want a 4x4 again. Best of luck, I hope you make the right decision!

I've had to save a boat or two bc of that. Most ramps around my parts aren't flat entry

You need to keep trying until you figure the vibration out. Eventually you will get the issue figured out.

Bottom line is if you trade your 4X4 for a 2WD you will hate yourself if you ever need 4WD. Plus I think it’s insanity talk.

It depends on the quality of the ramp i have 4 boats one 2500lbs another 3500 and two over 6500lbs
On a wet day at certain steeper ramps i even need 4wd for the 2500lb boat the 3500lb boat needs it 50percent of the time depending on the traction of the ramps. The two bigger boats i tow with a dually dump body gmc so ita not as relatable. 2wd could easily do a 3000 lb boat just make sure you always have good tires and be cautious with steep and slick ramps

99 percent of the time you don't need 4x4 for pulling a boat out. I have pulled at about 30 ramps in the last 35 years of owning different boats and personal watercraft. Only one time I thought I had a 50-50 chance of getting pulled into the water. I was putting in Long Beach Harbor in California. The concrete was covered in slippery slime. I barely made it out. I have moved to the Chicago area and can't drive without 4x4 at times now.

In my area we have a lot of very primitive boat ramps, only a few of nice even concrete. 4wd gets used a lot. I would not own a 2wd Taco, or any 2wd truck in my neck-of-the-woods, and I don't do much off-road, although sometimes use it for hunting and camping and just general woods loafing. I don't put mine in 4wd very often, but when I need it I need it damned bad.

If your highway driving like me, I would think the 2wd would be lighter, faster, and get better gas mileage, not to mention cheaper. Dealer talked me out of 2wd but mostly because they have no selection and hope you fall for what they have. Now that it's too late, I see nice looking Taco's on the road that were a lot cheaper than my TRD OR. I think all Taco's have a LSD rear diff. and are the same ride height. So, if you like the new truck better, make the deal. When ever I want to buy something, I call my best friend and he always says,"your going to be dead for a long time"

There is only 1 reason to buy a 2x4 truck... if it's a fleet vehicle. Otherwise if it's for personal use, do yourself a favor and just keep what you have.

Time to consider a new shop.

Is it felt through the floor or steering wheel?
