    Spacers. Spacers everywhere.
That doesn't work if you want to go to the strip.

I went there for the first time earlier in the year to go to a tradeshow. We had some downtime so we did some exploring as well. I'm a youngin like you, so I was pumped about it. I even made a similar thread on a different forum. I can tell you this, you will probably enjoy it alot more if everything is spontaneous. It's a crazy city with action pretty much everywhere, just go out and have a good time (be smart), and you won't run out of things to do. Sometimes the unplanned vacations are the best.

    Be safe!

Are there like theme parks or roller coasters on or anywhere near the strip? Or in vegas?

we stayed at Harrah's for new years this year, wasnt too bad on price and the hotel was pretty updated. Toby Keith's restaurant inside Harrah's gives you a free meal (I see you are Army). Be prepared to spend some money, as most things cost money there. If you want to stay on the strip, but not spend a lot on a room, try the southern end (Luxor, Excalibur). Taxis are cheap, as well as the Deuce (bus that runs the length of the strip).

If you want free booze, sit down and gamble a little and the drink girls will work there way around to you...

as far as theme parks or coasters...New york new york has one on its roof. Stratosphere has a crazy one at the top...

one year we went and stayed at the "golden palms" which was right on the other side of the freeway from new york new york and excalibur .... place is closed down now though .... if you do stay on the other side of the freeway be warned it is gheeeeeeeeeeetoooooooooooooooooo

another year i figured i should be good staying in my camper shell in the treasure island parking lot .... little did i know the music goes on in the parking garage all night, and that security would wake me up at 5am ... told security i lost my room key (which wasnt entirely untrue, i actually lost my friends who had the key) ... anyhow, wouldnt reccomend trying that at least not there. I dont know how he even knew i was in there, im guessin i musta shifted and the truck bounced.

and yes the hard rock kicks ass, even more if you go in the summer and can get into "rehab" on sunday which is a big ass pool party.

Staying at a hotel/casino on the strip is most expensive, hotel/casino dowtown is less expensive. Staying in a motel just off the strip is cheapest, the area around/off the strip can be pretty ghetto.
You get what you pay for when staying in Vegas.

If you do go to the clubs expect to spend money, drinks are like 15 each on average and entry fee is 30 for guys on average word of advise is to pre game it ( drink before going out so that you don't spend as much on alcohol). Have a good time dude!

IMO, the Venitian and Palazzo are the best value on the strip if you want a nice room. I've stayed at the Imperial Palace, Treasure Island (TI), Venitian, Palazzo, New York New York, Caesars Palace, Stratosphere, MGM, and the Aria. If you want inexpensive but still nice TI and the Stratosphere. Only down side to the Stratosphere is that it is very far north on the strip and you won't want to walk more than once down to the remaining hotels.

Since this is for your fiance you'll definitely want to make plans to go up the Eiffel Tower. Do it at night. It is the best place to see the fountains at Bellagio. Also go downtown at night to see the Freemont Street Experience. If she likes to shop then plan to go to the mall at Caesars, at the Venitian, and at Planet Hollywood. You can see lions at MGM, white tigers at the Mirage (and dolphins). You'll also want to see the volcano at the Mirage at night. Of all mention above only the trip up the Eiffel tower will cost anything, $8/person I believe.

The rides on top of Stratosphere are great if you like thrill rides and last I was up there it was $24 to go to the top and ride all the rides as many times as you wanted. Stratosphere has the fastest double-decker elevators in the world by the way. Just down the road at the Sahara is Speed the Ride. It is a great roller coaster. IMO the coaster at New York New York does nothing but beat you up...it is a rough ride but if you're into coaster I'd call it a must do. Mandalay Bay has the giant aquarium, Shark Reef, that cost around $15/person and is fun if you're into that sort of thing.

If you want to spend a little more take a helicopter ride up the strip. It is a short ride and costs around $75/person. I'd never been in a copter so we took the short ride just to see if we would later want to go to the Grand Canyon which they will also book. I don't especially like flying but this ride up the strip was one of the best things I've done out there...nothing like a plane.

How long are you going to be out there? A day trip down to Hoover Dam is also fun.

PM me if you have any specific questions.

...just realized how long this post was. My wife and I were married in Vegas at Christmas and have gone back 11 times at Christmas. We decided not to go this year and this post just made me realize how much I missed it!
