    Hi Gang,

I need to replace part of my exhaust system. I got all the parts together today and it looks like the mid pipe does not fit into the muffler. The pipes are the same size. I was expecting one pipe to sleeve into the other. Did I buy the wrong size mid pipe?

    Thanks for any advice!

check to make sure have the correct pieces ,check overall length to make sure it fits truck if it does take both pieces to local muffler shop and have them stretch one end a little to fit.

Is stretching the pipe a common thing?

I would have thought the pipe would break.

They actually make a stretching tool that you can rent at AutoZone or buy for cheap at harbor freight

yes youre totally fine. no worries. if you get a good enough welder, he can just weld them together. or you can cut slits in several places, allowing you to open the pipe up to go over the other. or you can just use the expander. all are common solutions. the best is just welding it straight out. since no matter what you do, it should be welded either way.

yes its how they make exhaust systems, they just expand the end of the pipe that needs to connect together

another option is to just go to any auto store and buy an exhaust pipe coupling connector and clamps like this http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...nkw=exhaust+pipe+coupling+connector+&_sacat=0
